I need to build a system ASAP. Any help is appreciated. From the other thread:

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. Gaming, MMOs, FPSs, web and office

2. What YOUR budget is. $1250 - I think I'm within budget

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. USA/Newegg mostly - for use in USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. Should be obvious. 🙂

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are. Sound Card, Speakers, LCD, KYB, Mouse

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads. Yes, yes and oh yes.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds. No overclocking and no SLI.

I also need a copy of XP PRO, but I don't know which version is most economical over at Newegg... some of them are 400 bucks. : / Do you see any compatibility issues or things you'd do differently?

Yep...it's good. Just a thing. What size monitor do you have? Because if you play at anything significantly higher than 1600x1200 then you have made the right decision for the 640 version of the 8800GTS. But, if you play at 1280x1024 or 1440x900 you won't see any be performance difference between the 640 and the 320 version. It'll save yourself some bucks. If you just can't afford quad core just don't get it. But if you can't, possibly by making tiny sacrifices in other components I'd probably recommend a quad core. Just make sure to post your build with a quad core before you buy. If you want a quad core that is.
 
Heh.. I think I used one of Nick's templates to build my last system three years ago. That system worked like a champion!

I'll see what I can do with Quad Core, but I'm darn near my budget now.

Fwiw, I'm using a 21" widescreen at 1680x1050, so I'm going with the 640 just to be sure.

How close to your budget are you? You could save $30 and get the Gigabyte P-35 motherboard, and the thing is amazing to boot! Just something to think about, although Asus boards are great too.
 
Yeah it will. I'm pretty sure all P35 motherboards support quad core. About the XP Pro...I think you can install XP on two computers with the same CD-Key and everything should work fine including genuine updates. It's like that with my burned copy. I lost the original. 🙁 I mean, don't get me wrong. If you play older games you won't see any performance increase with a quad core CPU, you might even find that the E6750 is actually faster. It's just for games and applications coming out in the near future that will take advantage of all four cores (hopefully) but no one really knows how big of a performance gain you're going to get over a dual core CPU.

About the 640 vs 320 issue. Please, please look at this review before making up your mind. But remember, don't listen to me if you don't want to. 😛
