Hi, I am about to buy an MiniDisk Player.
First thing, i am going to copy(burn, write...) mp3s on the MD.

Is it just a simply soundcard will do?
A soundcard with speaker out will do the job?
I have a machine with soundcard build-in on the motherboard. The card has only 1 speaker out and mic in.

And if i copy mp3s from the PC to MD, what kind of cable should i use? optical , ...?

This is what I will do. Buy a normal audio cable from the speaker out of the sound card to the line in of the MD. play the mp3 in the computer (make sure your ICQ is not making any "oh-oh" sound :)) and start recording in the MD player.

If you want to use an optical cable, you will need an optical outport on your sound card, which I don't think you have one. Frankly, I don't see much difference between the quality from normal audio cable and optical cable. There IS a difference, and I am sure you can somehow hear it, but hey, i suppose you want a MD player so you can listen to music when you are jogging, riding a bus, or driving right? So will you really care about quality that much?

That's my 2 cents. Consider the fact that you pay more for the optical cable while I don't think I will notice the difference, I would go for the normal cable, which in fact is the only choice for you beside getting a new sound card.

Have fun recording MP3 :)

oh ok,
thanks for ur input,

another questions:
If i have those crappy soundcard, no matter i have a optical cable or not, it just doesn't support it or it won't take advantage? If it doesn't even support it, then nevermind, but if it won't take advantage but it supports i still want to buy the optical cable just for convenient and convince. (sigh, nevermind if u don't understand what i am saying)

How much is one of the basic and optical cable?

and any good MD player in mind? I just need one that can record and cheap.
I won't use this again after a few weeks, cuz i am going to HK for vacation :) where i will always ride bus, but after a weeks, i will be back to where i am now.

wei wei, lei dow hei from HK?? haha... Yeah, I am from HK too, that's why I know what people need MD for.. haha... bus and MTR...

I am quite sure your card can't support optical output. Optical cable actually has a different kind of plug (as far as i know, since I haven't updated myself for quite some time on this). So maybe normal cable is the only choice for you.

If you are talking about HK price, I think optical cable can go like HK$100 or so. a normal cable is like HK$20???

I am not 100% sure. I don't have a MD. I just worked in Broadway 3 yrs ago, and that's all I learned. So I am not sure what model is good now neither... I am in the US, and I got a changer in my car, heee.... But MD is like a MUST in HK

Good luck in finding a MD. btw, isn't MD cheaper in HK, specially if you get those "water goods" in Mongkok?

YES, YES
I want to buy MD so that i can listen it on the plane, but it costs at least $400Can. So i guess HK has a cheaper market gwah.

Wow, the difference btwn the normal and optical cable is huge!!!

Do u know what price range in HK for a MD that is recordable?
I don't need a slim one, just quality and cheap.

and the "water product", do u mean "rat product"?
cuz "water product" is so unsafe
and "rat product" is hard to find loh, they won't tell u, u can only tell from the price. and it gives me the unsafe feeling too.

NO NO NO, you don't want to use your speaker out, you want the line out. Speaker out is an amplified signal for speakers. If it is a cheap soundard without too much power it might work but definitely not the best way to go.

well, since he only has speaker out and mic, the only choice is speaker out. if you have a line out, sure go for line out.

wel, i do mean water goods. it just doesn't have the official warranty. usually in my experience these kind of appliances start breaking after the warranty anyway. so either youget the real ones of the water product, it will break after the warranty, so.... that's why even when i worked in Broadway, most of us got water products, even though we can get the real ones cheaper.

price range. my friend got a MD recordable in HK last summer. it was the newest model at that time, the real one wasn't even in yet. The price was HK$1900. I think it was a Sharp. I personally like Panasonic. Sony sucks... They always have the worst quality.
