Need suggestions on how to deal with AT&T

Dari

Lifer
My friend lost her phone last week. She promptly went to an AT&T store to report the phone lost and have the service suspended. She found the phone the very next day and called AT&T to have the service restored. They said it would take 2 hours. 3 days later the service still wasn't restored so I called them and repeated the story. They said the service had been cancelled and they would need to do a credit check to restart it. I refused, telling them we suspended the service, not had it cancelled. The CS rep agreed that the error was on AT&T's part. She said they would work on it. Two days later the service was up and running again. However, someone called today to get some feedback on our experience. I asked if they did the credit check and the gentleman said yes. I told him that we never gave the approval for a credit check. He said he would investigate and call back.

Is it possible for them to "undo" the credit check? If not, what recourse can be taken considering they did the credit check without anyone's approval?

Nope, they can't undo it. You friends credit score has just dropped by 4 points. Congrats.

As long as you don't have credit inquiries every single month I don't think it will be an issue.
Likely they can get it removed from your credit report though.

You agreed to them being able to do a check when you signed up. It would fall under that. And it's really no big deal and not something to even have a thought about.

I believe your contract with AT&T states they can carry out a credit check without your permission. Privacy after signing a contract is a moot point. Sorry.

Unless permission was given at the time the phone was reported that AT&T could talk to a third person

Or Dari is on th eaccount

I was given permission because she did not have another phone.

Wow, you have that big a problem with a credit check? Ouch.

Yes, I still value privacy highly.

Same here. I had my BofA credit card reported as lost. They sent me a new one but not after checking my credit. WTF?

That's pretty good...my wife is japanese so I deal with these kinds of things all day and in the end I am paying it. They usually need the customer online or you on the account. Most don't care to take 'additions' that can make account changes.

you lost a CC and you fault them for seeing how your credit is?

Poor fuckers regularly have friends steal their cards...

Nah, I have something called integrity. You should get some.

WTF does integrity have to do with this?? Clearly neither you or your friend read the agreement she signed. I guarantee you that if you did, that you would have seen the words "subject to credit approval" written on it. It's usually in the first paragraph. If she signed it, then that's all AT&T needs. Getting over it, is your only recourse.

You should do your friend a favor, and introduce her to the at&t webpage. It allows you suspend & reactivate the phone from there. That way, she will be ready for the next time.😉

Does the credit check extend to reactivating a suspended account?
