Well my provider jacked up the price on my cabal service from 42 to 54 dollars a month if I get a modem and sign a contract for 18 months I pay 34, So I am getting the modem. My experiance with cabal modems was pretty much all the same not sure really if one is better than the other? Right now im torn between the tochiba and the linksys on the newegg site. What ones do you guys and girls suggest?

I got a good deal on an RCA model from eBay, so you might want to check there, too. All cable modems are essentially identical, just make sure you get one that's DOCSIS 1.0 or 1.1 coompliant.

as long as they're docsis compliant they should be fine, just be careful with that 18 month contract...things can happen quickly.

Yes I know 18 months kinda scares me also, although I really think that 34.50 a month is a good deal in my situation.

Bleh, US$54 for cable modem service?!?!?! I pay CDN$35 for uncapped service!

Anyways. like the others said any DOCSIS modem should do fine. I use a Samsung and have not had any problem with it.

I used a 3Com one for a long time and liked it. Then while shopping I was looking at the Motorola SB4100, Toshiba, RCA, Linksys and the D-Link models. I opted for the Motorola and like it. It even has a stand-by button which puts the modem to sleep which I now use quite a bit.

I have the Motorola Surfboard, and it has worked very well. Beyond that, I don't know; I imagine that*most* modems are very similar
