oki doki now here is the deal. i am building a mame box and i need suggestions on what to put in it. i will outline some initial specs and then i will ask for suggestions on specific components.

this post would belong more appropriately on the hotdeals forum but the mods there are heartless bastards and the posters are vicious ferengi and they would flame me to death if I asked for help. so i am asking for help here.

the whole thing has to come in under $300. the system will have cheap mobo w/ onboard sound + budget CPU + tiny HD to hold mame + budget CD drive + tiny case + 64 meg + like 200 watt power supply + graphics card with tv out + thats it I think

I will put dos on the HD. also mame and a frontend. I will configure it so it reads roms from the CD drive. I guess I need to hook up a gamepad or two also but I already have those.

the whole thing has to come in under $300. so if you have suggestions on any specific components please tell.

fic az11 with sound+duron 800+fan~$140. $120 for a 700.

64 megs of ram~$20.

cdrom=free or $30. find one of those freebie deals at staples etc.

case=$20.

hard drive~$60.

radeon sdr card in hot deals=$70 after rebate.

comes to about $310 no including the cdrom. they have those delta 50x for free ocassionaly. 64megs of micron was $17. may be able to find a cheaper hard drive that is used in the for sale forum. what i could come up with anyway real quick.

MAME is an arcade emulator.

Sounds good to me but what it not be more efficient to get a bigger HD and then you can run all the ROMs from it. They aren't too big are they?

Tip: I wouldn't go around calling the Mods heartless bastards or they might be heartless to you for it...

You'll probably do well going with a BookPC. Basically they are highly integrated FlexATX mobo's in very tiny cases. Most of them are based on the i810 chipset.

[shamelss self plug] I have one for sale, PM me if interested. [/shameless self plug] :)
