need suggestions for building a system

Hi Guys/Gals
My good friend's brother would like me to build him a gaming computer, I have built a lot of computers but nothing at all with the latest gear (i.e. AMD 64 mobo's, pci-xpress VC)

So my knowledge is of the old school gaming technology 🙂 (see my sig) so I really would like some input on what I can go out to the local computer-store and pick up his gear and start building it for him.

His dollar limit on the complete system is about $1000.oo and he already gave me $220.oo for the video card, so what I need now is everything that goes inside the new box. I would like to start him off with 1Gig of memory nothing great even "value-memory" just to get him started.

So I can move around the money on a good mobo so he can upgrade later on when the hard-core-gaming-bug hits him, hehe, you know like us 😀

Thanks,
CA

this is a decent card by itself at stock but you can easily mod this
200 dollar card to a X800XT PE !

that should get you started those prices are from newegg for a reference
if you shop around you can probably find most of these parts cheaper

if you overclock you should drop down to a 3200 or a 3000
2 gigs of ram seems like a overkill but 1 gig doesnt seem to be
cutting it anymore :-(
