Alrite, this might have been asked a thousand times before but pardon me for asking it again.

I am building a new Athlon x2 3800+ rig and am open to suggestions for the motherboard, ram, video, power supply (for overclocking), and stuff.

Here's what i am thinking about:

athlon x2 3800+
Epox / DFI / MSI (non-sli mobos)
2GB (2x1GB) fast RAM OCZ/ Corsair/ Patriot (for overclocking the cpu to a decent 2.4 or some like that)
Sapphire X800GTO2 video/ other similar good price:performance deals
200+ GB SATA 3Gbps w/ NCQ - WD/ Maxtor/ Seagate
Antec Performance Plus PlusView II case w/ a good 450+ W psu

as you can see i am not sure about models for many of the components, kindly suggest good ones for whichever you can. I would appreciate complete configs. TIA.

OK. What are you planning to use it for? Are you going to Overclock?

Anyway, if you want a good MoBo, i would look at the ASUS A8N-E
I think a.t.m. 250GB/300GB hard drives offer the best value for money.
Antec make good power supplies. Maybe you can get one bundled with your case. A 380W+ TruePowerII should be plenty, although a 430W/480W will give you even more room to add stuff further down the road.

Also, some people have been having problems with the 3800+ X2. If you have problems, here are a couple of threads to look at.

for your mobo, get the DFI. you did state how you plan on overclocking.

for the ram, you could cut back a little and put the money elsewhere but if money is not an issue, sounds good. 2x1gb=good choice

x800gto2 is a pretty good price/performance card

hard drive you should get the 250GB+ Western Digital w/16mb cache or a Seagate. it doesn't really matter though. all the new drives, especially the 3gbps ones, are very close in speeds and the difference you see you most likely will not notice.

psu: many AT members think fortons are good PSUs. get a 450w.

hahahaha. $257 for DDR400 when it can be had for $214 and DDR500 for $250.

Seasonic rocks. $110 S12-500 +$23 S12-600

Uhhh, I like the times on the other ram and its CL 2 thanks for playing .
it is my understandig that 1 gig of CL 2 ram will own a gig of Cl 3 ram.

maybe at the same clockspeed, but that DDR500 can be run at DDR400 with tight as a virgin timings of 2-2-2-5 making your own point against you.

CL 3 doesn't really matter so much these days, since the A64 has an onboard memory controller. Performance dif would be <10%, probably closer to 5%. You would be better off spending the extra cash getting 2GB of Value Ram, especially if you're into playing newer games (BF2/Fear and Quake4/CoD2 when they're released etc...).

The DDR500's being clocked 1.25 times faster more than makes up for the higher latency.

If there was a better alternative I was aware than what I posted, I would have posted it instead.

Ribbon thank you for you wisdom, my frienmd had me so sold that CL 2 was the best DDR ram reguardless of speed.

Thank you sorry for the flame.

Sage sorry to take over your thread hope this helped.
Ribbon Thank you, saved me some time and money.

Sage what ever you do please be aware that I have heard that some of the older game have trouble runnning on the X2 procs, I would look at some of the X2 forum post about how to go about handling this problem although I would not let it scare you away from dual core as it hasnot scared me away.
