Need suggestions for a gaming and graphics LCD

Greetings,

I'm in the market for a 19" or larger LCD screen that's ridiculously bad ass. I've been poking around a little, read a few reviews, etc, but would love to get personal input. I'd be using the monitor primarily for games, and 2d and 3d content creation. I'd prefer it be a widescreen, unless that would be an issue with games or a Radeon 9600 XT or newer. I've got to say it:

If you spend $1000 for a monitor to play on that lowly beater 9600XT, you are nuts.

Spend $600 on a monitor and get a X800Pro or 6800GT with the rest. You'll thank me.

to add on to that, a 9600XT is going to have a hell of a time trying to smoothly display high res/widescreen resolutions.
As for a real response, Dell 2005FPW, but at $800, that doesn't leave much room for the video card you need =D

I'm going to build a new system soon, I want to go ahead and get the moniter now. So, don't worry about the stinkin' graphics card 😉. The 9600 XT isn't THAT much of a beater anyways 😛
IDEALLY, I'd like to get a 23" moniter that's not much over $1000, if possible. Something that looks as good as the Apple 23" and has a good refresh rate for games. I've already read alot of the Dell LCD post, and wasn't able to determine if that would work for me or not. I'd be willing to go with a CRT, but am really thinking about getting my first LCD. Comments welcome.

The 9600XT isn't able to keep up with today's games using the ideal resolutions for your new monitor. Get nothing lower than a 6800nu for your video card.

And you want an LCD....... why? Is it the latency, the horrible color accuracy, or the ghosting that interests you?

Anyway- running a larger LCD you are going to be stuck running 1600x1200 which your 9600XT will not be able to handle decently for many of the newer games. You really are much better off going with a less expensive monitor and drop the rest on the graphics card unless you plan on non gaming between now and when you build your new rig.

i just got a 20" apple for $850, student discount with any valid undergraduate/graduate/medical school ID. great monitor, ghosting is not an issue. id have to agree with the comments on your 9600XT though...you aint gonna be running full-res on games, but the monitor scales res seamlessly as well.

image quality/color accuracy is also excellent. i work in a biology imaging lab and we have 30" apples for all our microscopy stations. great panel.

I recommend the Dell 2001FP or Dell 2005FPW. With discounts, you should be able to get either for around $550 or so. Can't beat the price and great LCDs to boot.

Good luck. You should either get a 1600x1200 or 1680x1050 LCD, any bigger than that and you will need to run SLI just to turn out a decent frame rate. I have the Dell 2005FPW and it's great., plus I picked it up for $554. Keep your eyes on the deals, and you can score this monitor for a decent price.

Yes, it is. Even most current generation cards have to work pretty hard to maintain smooth framerates on a 1680x1080 screen.
