I need to find a scanner with an automatic document feeder that will store the output in TIFF (or equivalent popular format) files. I'd like to be able to dump at least 50 (100 is better) letter-size sheets into it and let it rip.

I'm not too concerned with any fancy software suite, I won't be doing OCR. Just a not-too-expensive way to scan lots of letter-size documents to TIF files.

I'm looking around but there are a lot of units out there, from $200 to $5000. It's going to take me a long time, it seems.

If you have any experience with these and could provide some pointers, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

NOT easy task...
My office tried to do something like this.. using a document management software.. expensive, I looked at 80-20, filenet, etc.etc. the software is just too expensive, Kodak has their own, Xerox.. basically

I have the Xerox DocuCentre 332, it needs a computer to process the scan and then files it with the document management software.

We didn't buy anything and still looking for better solution.

You're just scanning the docs right ? Not databasing it for like web retrival ?

Yep, scanning only, no database. Just going to scan docs into TIF and save them under the doc number. I'm not going to use any big document management system. All I need to do is scan a document called ABCXYZ0622 and make sure the TIF file has the name ABCXYZ0622.TIF. No OCR, no indexing, no keywords.

Check out the Epson Perfection 1640SU Office. This scanner has an automatic document feeder (ADF) rated at 40 pages, but I've managed to stack 50-55 pages of 20lb paper without a problem.

I've been extremely impressed with this scanner for "bulk" scanning ala the ADF, scanning in photos, and scanning the occasional negative using the optional transparency adapter.

You can find this scanner for about $370 with the ADF.
