I would like to buy a blender to

1) make smoothies
2) make margaritas

Ive been reading reviews on amazon and its hard to tell if these high end things are worth the money. I really dont want to spend over $150 but i dont know what is reasonable.

Any help would be nice.

Consumer Reports did a test recently next to the $400 Vitamix they liked the Ninja blender the most and it was much less than the Vitamix.

They may have like it the most 'for the money', but that's not to say the extra money doesn't get more.

Vitamix and blendtec will make the smoothest smoothies and break down pulp/seeds the best. They will also make the best nut 'butters' and flours from grain. They also have 7 year warranties, much better than the 1-yr ninja and most others.

I think it's just a matter of what one wants to get out of their blender and how hard they will push it and how often. Many people will be fine making fresh fruit smoothies and margaritas with a $30 blender.
