Need suggestion for replacement TV from Best Buy

I have an Insignia NS-L55X-10A that has been having problems with freezing and ghosting for a while, so I called Best Buy to have them repair it under warranty. Well Geek Squad just called and told me the part for the TV is no longer available and I should go to Best Buy to exchange (TV with similar specs/price - she didn't really elaborate on how that works) or upgrade to another TV and pay the difference.

I paid $900 for this TV and am not too keen on getting another Insignia (even with their 2 year warranty) or other off-brand. I had a Samsung before and it was just great. Can anyone recommend 55" LCD/LED from a top brand? I'd be willing pay some extra $$$ for an LED if it makes an appreciable difference. Do LED's last longer as they don't have the large florescent bulbs? Are they any less fragile when moving them due to the lack of bulbs? I know they theoretically have a better image (full rear lit) but that's not worth 100% premium to me.

They have this Samsung LED (UN55D6300S) that is the cheapest one they have in the 50"+ range, but it's $1700. Samsung also doesn't appear to have any 55" LCD's.

Here is a 55" LG LCD (55LK520) for $1,100 with good reviews - 4.5/5. Sister has a 50" LG and it's never had a problem.

55" Sony LCD (KDL55BX520) also for $1,100, but it only has 1 review.

55" Panasonic 3D Plasma (TC-P55ST30) with excellent reviews, but it's $1,300 not really worth another $400 for a feature I would use once a year, if that. I also know plasma is supposed to have a better image (and it looked like they did at the store) but is longevity still a question with these?

Then there is the 55" Toshiba LED with not-so-hot reviews for the same as the above Panasonic plasma.

All of the other Samsung TV's in this price range are factory refurbs, and I've had my fill of flaky products with this Insignia.

The best TV on your list by far is the Panasonic (ST30). You're not paying an extra $400 for 3D, you're paying an extra $400 for a much better TV.

I would second that on the Plasma. Longevity on a plasma? They are rated for the same number of hours as an LCD (regardless of backlight).

I have a nearly 5 year old Vizio plasma (LG Panel inside) that is going strong and just as good as the day I bought it.

The last I heard the Insignia TV's are re-badged Samsung TV's with slightly lesser specs. (I.e. the panels that couldn't meet the Samsung minimum specs are re-badged as sold with slightly lesser specs)

I would get the ST30 if it were me. It will be far superior to any of the other TV's you have listed. If you're worried about price, I believe they come in 50" size as well so that may save you a couple hundred bucks.

The Insignia NS-L55X-10A was released November 2009. If the TV is freezing or ghosting, it's prob the mainboard as shows here.

I'm surprised Best Buy is making you bring it in for a swap. The way it works they give you a best buy gift card for the purchased amount without the tax you paid.

So you have 2 choices: Get the TC-P50ST30 for $899.99, a much better TV than Insignia or trade in your $900 of best buy gift card for amazon gift cards and buy a tv from them.

Good luck with whatever you do.
