Do these boards (a7n8x, 8rda etc.) allow you to run ANY thoroughbred XP at 166 FSB WITHOUT any mods?
For example, I have a .13micron XP 1700+, which is not the rev. B. Can I run that with these boards without any unlocking mods? If not, which processors (besides 2600+ 333 or barton) are needed?
I have the PC 2700 memory already so memory is covered................
Help!

BTW, I'll be dropping the multiplier so it's not really overclocking the CPU. Also, what should the PCI/AGP divider be set to? (in order to stay within AGP/PCI spec of 66/33)

I believe that the nForce2 boards unlock ALL Tbred processors, tho I can only vouch for my 1700+ Rev B.

Running it at 166MHz FSB should be doable in about 10 keystrokes :)

Cool..now what about getting the lower multipliers? I don't exactly want to overclock the CPU..just want to run the CPU in sync with the mem at 166/333 without going over 1.46GHz.

so I can just drop the multiplier to say 9x and run the fsb at 166 with no issues? without touching the cpu bridges? if so, NICE, if not, UGH

Now, this I need absolute confirmation about...is this possible with ANY TBred? Or is this limited to
TBred-B? What about the older Palomino?

I know I have some reading to do so if anyone has any good links I'd appreciate it.

I have run a Palmino, T-bred-A, and now my current T-bred B all with different multipliers and FSB speeds without touching any bridges on the chips themselves. MY Epox 8RDA+ will actually allow you to run the CPU with any bus speed without affecting the memory. I currently run mine at 166 cpu and ram, but I was running it at 166mhz CPU and 83% ram (139mhz) with my old memory. I hope this helps you out.

are you running with PC 2700 ram now? Do you have the latest bios on that 8RDA+? (and are you still able to go 166/333 on Palominos?)

sweet

edit: BTW, is that just a heatsink on the Epox 8RDA+ chipset or is there a fan on it as well? Can't really tell based on the photos I've seen of it.

Ok, I just built the setup and here's what I have so far...

I got a 1700+ Tbred A on the Asus A7N8X retail board. (non deluxe)
So far I'm running 9.5x166 with mem doing 2-2-2-6 and 'NSYNC hehe with the CPU.
I'm using a Zalman 3100 heatsink fan so it's very quiet. CPU temp is 40C idle. Shouldn't be too bad under full load. I haven't tested that yet.

I'm wondering what FSB Spread Spectrum and AGP Spread Spectrum is and what it should be set to.....It's not letting me change the FSB SSpectrum at all. The AGP SS is disabled.

I'm run a few rounds of Sandra CPU/Mem benchmarks and it was stable during the tests....

Anyone know if the PCI bus is still at 33MHz? That's a pretty big concern as I'll be installing $1000 soundcards in this system.....don't want to fry anything.

Doh!

Josh

Are you saying that an nForce2 board will unlock even the locked palomino cpu's?

Aarrrghh

This sucker blue screens on me after a few rounds of Sandra Burn in with the message IRQ equal to or less.....and the other time it was related to an ATI driver.

I never increased the CPU Vcore though.....it's at 9.0x166/333, memory doing 3-3-3-7. Is it absolutely necessary to bump up the V? It's set to auto and when I probe it, it's at 1.5xxV

Any suggestions would be highly welcomed : )

I ran a green core(yes a Palmy) XP 2000 @ 1750mhz (166mhz x 10.5) without touching the bridges, so you tell me how that is possible since the default speed for that prcessor is 1.6ghz (12 x 133).
