Need songs to test a car stereo system

any sub/sat 5.1 systems suck.....for music at any rate...lol
even M&K, KEF or Bose high end stuff doesnt compare to full size speakers.

for your car test, i'd suggest REM to do a general quality check, they normally record their albums very well, and to test extremes any Prodigy or Chemical Brothers or suchlike will work, massive bass swings and plenty of high pitched stuff with extremely fast beat rates in some cases, perfect for testing a speakers constraints....and in the case of older Prodigy/CB stuff no swearing 🙂

edit: oh and not forgetting The Orb....some of their stuff is fantastic for seeing what a speaker can do, specially their older stuff. (highly recommend the track 'A Huge Evergrowing Pulsating Brain That Rules From the Centre of the Ultraworld'.....i think i remembered that right...lol)

Classical music is very good too, however you want to get a good recording, not a cheap CD.

I would test your subs with the kind of music you listen to, so you can adjust the amp and the stereo eq to your liking. My 2 Kicker 12'' Solobaric L5's sound great with my Classic Rock. 😉

Here's a test song for you. Since this car most likely lacks a subwoofer and s/w fader, I have a surprise starting at 01:12 into the track. Only the LFE channel is allowed to play for ~30 seconds. Blast that full volume for best ricer effect! 😛

Any old 30s, 40s, or 50s jazz with a trumpets (Harry James comes to mind), first listen to it on good headphones like Sennheiser HD580s or speakers like Paradigms or JBL studio series, then listen to it in the car.

If the car is 13 years old, do you really expect the speakers to be any good? I mean, they were certainly paper speakers, and most likely they are rotted and torn.

Just plan to replace the speakers with new ones. You can get 2 pair of Infinity Reference speakers for $200 or less.
