Recently got a new Honda Insight (67MPG so far!!!) and they sure come with SHIT speakers! Not even an audiophile and I can tell the difference.

Just an FYI, you guys got a n00b here so...

Anyway I'm planning on replacing the head unit and the front speakers. Just wondering if you guys have any recommendations on what to get.

So far I'm thinking of getting the following:

Head Unit
Kenwood KDC-MPV7019 CD/MP3 Player - $200.00 (MSRP $320-$400)

Speakers

EDIT
Just found out that my mount depth for my basket is a little short...

Size: 6-1/2"
Mount Depth: 1-7/8"
Tweeter Protrusion: 3/4"

Don't suppose anyone has any recommendations for those specs? I think most 35W and below units fall into that size catagory.

Just one thing to remember, even more so than most anything else... when it comes to audio, you get what you pay for. You can get by, buying a cheap TV, or inexpensive car, or cheap furniture, and still have a great product. When it comes to audio, if you buy a $53 pair of speakers, that's exactly what you're getting. There's probably a small chance they will be better than your stock speakers, but if it were me, I'd buy something like Infinity Kappas, Boston Acoustics rally series speakers, or some lower end MB Quart coaxials.

I just purchased a set of Focal Polykevlar components (the 165K2 speakers, they retail for $653.00) but I got them for $335 with shipping. Found a really great deal on them.

If you don't plan to add a separate amp later, which it doesn't sound like you do, then the Boston Acoustics rally speakers should work nicely off of your aftermarket head unit.

I realize it's a hybrid and has a gas engine and that the stereo probably doesn't pull that much juice, but you may want to ask the dealer if there are any restrictions on what you should put in there.

I may be way off base here as I'm not exactly an Electrical Engineer, but it's worth mentioning.

I would recommend some Polks. They have a fairly new entry level line. Retail price on a pair of 6.5" is $100. They sound pretty good to me, a lot better then the 6.5" Kenwoods in my system (the two-way version of the ones you linked to).

Well, in general, you get what you pay for in speakers(in terms of sound quality). However, this rule does not apply to Bose. Bose speakers are way overpriced.

Everyone should be forced to listen to a pair of Paradigm Studio 100's before being allowed to buy a bose product.

Diamond M6 Series Drivers (Model number M661

Dimensions
Mount Depth: 2-1/8"
Diameter: 6-1/2"
Tweeter Dia: 1"

That's about as narrow as they get. You would need a 1/4" spacer with this speaker.

The line which are better than these, the HEX series, retail for $549.00. I'd imagine these retail for $350-400 and you can probably find them for ~$225 or so on a good deal.
