It all depends on the company I'm dealing with. I have called qwest before and it has taken an hour on the phone to only find out they can't do anything. Not to mention waiting on the phone for that long is much more uncomfortable then looking at a web page for an hour.

I can't stand 10 page long email chains that bounce around at work trying to fix a problem. Just walk over to that persons desk or pick up the damn phone and get a straight answer.

I actually get funny looks from people when I say that I *prefer* to work onsite with our facilities rather than over the phone or email.

That's just sad.
Thats just a different story, that isnt really about the phone it is more about being lazy and wanting to avoid confrontation or having to walk over somewhere. That really makes me mad when people get those huge email chains going back and forth.

guess it depends what customer service department you're calling.

where I work right now, emails are generally responded to within 5-15 minutes depending on how busy it is, and a lot of us vastly prefer emails over calls since it gives us something in writing in case the client later tries to recant and poses fewer risks of one party being misunderstood because of an accent, poor cellphone connection, background noise, etc.

and for inter-office stuff, I mostly 100% require something in writing just to make sure that my ass is covered. I got burned pretty bad on that once, where I spoke to someone in-person about something and they later denied that the entire conversation ever took place

I think you don't understand how to use the internet.

I can explain things if you'd like, my dad Al Gore invented it.
