Need someone to recommend an ASP.NET web host

I asked this question before, and people provided some links to the poorly-designed websites of some web hosts.

I didn't take any of the links because I figure if they don't know anything about designing an easy to use and attractive site, how could they know anything about hosting a bunch of websites? It just didn't seem like good business.

Well someone eventually recommended Sleekhost.com, and I signed up with them. They turned out to be absolute crap. Their servers aren't configured properly and they have never once responded to my emails. I cancelled my account.

I'm looking to pay around $10 bucks a month with the option to expand my account as needed. I need ASP.NET (Framework 1.1) support for:

-- MS Access with DSNs and the option to expand to SQL Server later
-- Web services (ASMX) and ASPX pages
-- Fair amount of bandwidth and storage given the price

Recommendations?

You might not be willing to pay enough for reliable .net hosting.

Linux/BSD hosting is much cheaper becuase of the lower barrier to entry (free OS, less support needed to keep the OS running) and tens of thousands of kids setting up hosting companies with a dedicated server or two to drive prices down.

So from competition, $10 in the linux world gets you a few steps up from the bottom of the barrel, while with .net you're in the dregs.

I gave you one link from a real company that's been around for 5+ years in your original thread (which Crucial just posted the link to). If you find something better than that for $10 be sure to post here to help the next person who asks.

Edit: there was also a RossMAN approved host -- why didn't you try them first?!

It didn't really look like that link you gave was for ASP.NET. I got bad vibes :)

Right now I'm researching JodoHost, a link provided in the original thread. They seem to get good reviews on WebHostingTalk.com

You know it's funny I've been a developer and a web designer since "the beginning of the internet" (heh), but I've never actually had to go find my own host and domain. I've always been working for some company that had its own hosting in place.

I had no idea the process was this complicated. Very interesting.

At any rate, I will be willing to pay more than $10/month in the future. Right now, I bought a domain and am looking for hosting as a pilot project of sorts. If it becomes profitable, I'll obviously move to better hosting, dedicated servers, etc. But I can't justify those expenses at this stage.

I just glanced at the earlier thread and there was a RossMAN approved host -- why didn't you use them?

I just sent a pre-sales "test" email to jodohost and they responded in like 10 minutes! I think I've made my choice...

RossMAN recommended WebHostingTalk.com which isn't a host, it's a place to talk about hosts.

I have indeed been searching WHT for recommendations.

I read his reply to ActuaryTm's message as also endorsing idologic.com as well as WHT (I seem to recall him endorsing idologic elsewhere) but I could easily be mistaken on that.

But jodohost sounds promising, so if you go with them let us know how it works out.

Read and research WHT.

Jodohost has received good reviews.
