I have a rather large tivo file that I need to make smaller without losing too much PQ, etc. What program can do this (free would be good)?

Heheh...good luck with that. I haven't found any apps that can edit a tivo file. I'll be very interested if anyone finds one.

I always do the "Save to VCR" function to a video caputre box on my laptop when I want to transfer something. It's a lot faster that way and I can edit the file anyway I wish.

A program called Direct show dump. Will convert it to mpeg and then you can edit it in NERO

;)

thanks fiat. Directshow converted it to a "movie file". Will nero somehow reduce the file size? If so, where are the options? I don't need it on a disc or anything. It's ~1.6GB. Just need it compressed.

Well, bad news. I have 2 tivo files and they just freeze anywhere form 30 seconds to a couple minutes after I try and play them trhough wmp10. I could have sworn I watched one of them the other day and it was fine. Haven't done anythin to my pc in a while (except installed Directshow dump). You think it could have casued a problem?

All my other video files play fine in wmp10????????

Did you convert it with DSD?

Maybe you don't have the required codec.

Try and convert MPEG to DVD file.

Yeah, I converted with directshow dump.
I was able to burn it to a dvd and it plays fine. SO I know it isn't the file. It has to be a codec but I can't seem to find out which one.
I recently installed a new version of ffdshow (~late Dec 2005). That's the only one I've ever really had to download.
BTW I also have PowerDVD 6.
