Need some "sound" advice on connections

I have the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard that offers bothh Intel HD audio and AC'97 audio onboard. I will not be using an add-in sound card at all with this system so I need to use one of these two audio connections.

My case has connections for either one to the front of the case. I am primarily a gamer but my wife will use the system to play audio from.

Which one should I hook up to the front panel connector?

Any suggestions/ideas would be appreciated!

Intel HD audio and AC'97 will both work. Both will sound about the same for your wife's audio unless she is listening from music that has been recorded in HD. To get the most out of a HD sound card you need 5.1 computer speakers configuration with a big decent sub with decent Watts and RMS numbers. Cheap low end computer 2.1 speakers will do nothing for a HD sound card output.

The board has HD Audio. Some boards have an option for HD Audio or AC97 in BIOS. This option just remaps the front panel connectors because the pinouts are slightly different between the two. AFAIK it doesn't "change" the onboard sound from one to the other, just makes it compatible with wiring on older cases.
