iam working on a friends computer amd k62 500 with 64mb of memory i believe the mobo is a pcchips all intergrated. i put on my 300 watt power supply to make sure that wasnt the problem. now the problem it wont let me install win 98 it starts but just quits i have tried me as well. i have changed out the ram and tested the hard drive with western digitals testing software. could this be the motherboard. or shoot me some other ideas to check. i also changed the battery. thanks in advance

was it working before, and stopped, or are you building this system for the first time? it could be almost anyhting, but i would tend to lean towards the ram or motherboard. are you sure the chip is ok?

the computer just kinda quit working and went crazy. it started by not working some of the time and got worse. one big problem is that the girl smoked like a chimney next to it.🙁 i have switched ram that is why 8iam leaning towards mobo

short of buying a new system (you know you can put together a very good system for very little money now), i would give her computer a thourough (sp?) cleaning. get a can of copmpressed air, take her computer apart (outdoors, for her house's sake), and give it a good blow job. if that doesnt help, i wonder if her hard drive might be develping bad sectors..?
