If you change the router to dynamic from static you should/may have to do these steps.

1) change the TCP/IP to automatically assign IP and DNS (remove the manual local IP's and such you set).
2) reboot the router
3) reboot the computer(s)
4) Log into the router and see if it obtained an IP from the server. renew if not.
5) winipcfg or ipconfig/ renew to have the router assign the IP to your system(s).

Your TCP/IP stack may be wacked too. Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it if no avail.

So you're saying that when you set it to dynamic IP on the WAN side, reboot everything (at least the cable modem and router), when you log back into the router the status page shows no IP information for the WAN (after waiting a few minutes)?

And what exactly is the point of telling the computer to use itself to use itself to lookup DNS?l

That I don't know (as I stated in a previous post). What I do know is that if I set my server to just point to the router I get nothing, but when I point it to itself, everything works.
