2GB today is a mistake. get 4GB.
2x1GB kits are 40$ each for DDR2-533 and -633... (maybe as low as 37$)

On the other hand, for 80$ with free shipping or 76$ after shipping and mail in rebate you get quality DDR2-800 in 2x2 config (4GB total).

Those are my recommendations.
I would pay the extra 4$ (actually pay 11$ less upfront) to avoid dealing with MIR.

i don't need 4 gb right now, i'm not running windows vista. i'll add more when i need it but for right now 2 gb is plenty. what speed ram should i get?

The link I posted was for DDR2 800 and thats the minimum I would go.
