Need some oc assistance

e2140 (M0)
2 x G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

The multiplier is locked at 6X with this chip/board combo
the power slope is disabled
I believe the memory speed is set to 400
the bus speed is 239 and anything higher cause a reboot

I am able to hit about 1.9. Am I missing something major? I thought this processor had a lot more headroom.

I'm not sure if it helps but the DRAM Frequency is 477.9 and the FSB : DRAM is 1:2

There's no big secret to overclocking. Bump up both voltages to get more speed.

I have my e2180 on 1.26V and Ram at 2.0v Try those settings, push the FSB up a bit, and keep an eye on your temps.

Your board is in dire need of newer BIOS if all you get is x6 multi. I have a near identical setup so maybe I can help you with this. Open cpu-z and check the BIOS version first.

I have the Intel BIOS from 1/14/08. I thought the BIOS was locked to 4X and 6X except for the extreme series procesors. I don't know how you are getting your e2140 at 8X. I'll check my BIOS again to make sure that it is not available.

Your E2140 should have a 8X multiplier. That would be 8 X 200mhz fsb, or 1.6Ghz. If you had a 6X muliplier, then you would only be running at 1.2Ghz.

Have you disabled all the power saving features in the BIOS, like C1E?

With that RAM, you should be able to run a 1:1 ratio up to speeds of 3.2Ghz while still keeping the RAM at its rated specs.

What temps are you getting? It may be that your HSF is mounted wrong and your CPU is overheating.

according to cpu-z
my core speed is 1200 with a 6x multiplier . I can get it as high 1433 @ 6x and bus speed at 239 and fsb at 955. cpu temp is under 40.

how do I change the ram ratio?

edit: the BIOS shows the multiplier as 8X but the Intel utility and cpu-z both show it as 6x.

Sounds like you have some power saving features still left on (SpeedStep maybe) that need disabled in the BIOS. Try running Prime95 or Orthos before running CPU-Z. Then with them running, then run CPU-Z to see if your multiplier hasn't jumped up to 8X.

I'm not sure on how to set your divider with that mobo.

That's definitely C1E/SpeedStep in action then. Multiplier you see in the BIOS, however, should be x8. If you want to get everything right, you may want to do this first: Move the debug jumper to fale-safe mode while the computer is completely off. (unplug the power cord) The jumper is between the memory slot and the IDE port on the board, and right above the first PCI-E x16 slot. While booting, keep patting on F2 to enter BIOS. In the first screen you will see the following.

Disable all 3 and save/exit. You will be prompted to put the jumper back where it was. Do it while power is again off.

Now, when you reboot, enter BIOS by pressing F2 again, then change the 'Reference Frequency' to 266MHz, and memory frequency to 533MHz. Forget about 4:5 at this time. You're going to do 1:1. Now, go back to the Processer Override section and raise the vFSB to ~1.4V and vMCH to ~1.6V. Reboot. Your system will briefly shut down and boot itself again, in order to change the strap. Go into BIOS and try raising the FSB incrementally. I'd suggest 266/300/333/350/370/400 in that order, but it's not a must. Raise the vCore an vDIMM as necessary.

I would advise against disabling the speedstep etc. If your computer is idling, you don't want it at full speed; just run Orthos or similar program to put a load on the CPU and get it to speed up when you want to read out the current OC setting.
