I need to replace the heatsink/fan on my lanyparty mobo.

heres a link at the egg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136152

I searched through their stock, but nothing seems thin enough. with my videocard installed theres at max 1/4 between my card and the motherboard. My raid controler is in the other x16 slotter. so both are being used.

I do overclock, heavly. so good cooling is needed and i love quiet.

any sugesstions?

thank you. EVERCOOL VC-RE looks like the best bet. the akasa is too tall, and the thermalright is to big, in general. I would either not beable to use my sata ports or my second video card.

The Evercool doesn't really look any better then the stock solution to me.

The Thermalright HR-05 is a passive solution meaning no noise and no chance of failure. It's hard to say for certain but should fit fine without blocking anything it orient the heastink facing up. I'm sure someone with more DFI experience can say one way or the other.

i normally would agree with you. But the Thermalright is just to big. it would either a block my sata ports, or be make me unable to use sli, or any video cards. and thanks for the videos!!

Guess you gotta be there... 😉

vc-re on my sli-dr, its alot better than stock. That being said i'm glad i don't have a windowed case to see the stupid lights.

<---loves stupid lights. I have 8 uv lights in my main system and all of my cabels, and mobo is uv senstive. i think it looks really cool! Just way to loud 🙁

The Thermalright HR-05 SLI will block your other 16x slot. (I have that cooler with an LANParty UT board).

However, depending on your video card you may have room for the regular HR-05. I believe someone posted some pictures with that setup on SilentPCReview.

I have the Normal HR-05 and i have to move my video card to the second slot.. ie x8.. there is not speed decrease but you can not put a video card there.

I am going to get the HR-05 SLI as i want to use the x16 for no reason other than there might be a small bottleneck lol

WobbleWobble, Can you put the HR-05 SLI the other way? so it is on top of the 5-Pin power connector, or is it too low for that direction or how about toward the IDE cables?

With the HR-05 SLI...

If I have the fins facing the top of the case, it blocks my first PCIe 16x slot. If I have the fins facing the bottom of the case it blocks the bottom PCIe 16x slot. I'm not able to face it towards the front of the case as my video card (7900 GTO is too long). I believe if you have it facing the front, it gets in the way of the SATA connectors (although they're probably still usable).

I made my own with a stock a64 HS. pics here.

Zepper did something similar in his son's system, fitting a custom mount to an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro and cutting a slot down the middle between the heatpipes.

VC-RE might not "look" better, but it's all copper and the fan is much quieter than the stock fan, and only spins up to about 5k rpms max. (stock ~8k rpms at max).

Thanks WobbleWobble.. i don't need the bottom PCI-E slot so i will be buying the HR-05 SLI soon 🙂 Most likely buying a G80 or G81 based video card in the next month or two and i would like to run it at the x16 slot not the x8 slot just in case 🙂

Thanks again

The evercool is made of cooper while the stock is aluminum. Also theres more fin density count on the Everycool vs the Stock. Ummm im on the evercool, and when i migrated on on my old board it dropped the temps by almost 5-7C. But this could also be due to the AS5 i used instead of the crappy stuff they used.
