I am in need of some new music. Not only did I lose over 2000 mp3s in a recent hard disk crash, but my girlfriend just left for camp, so right now I'm all lonely and sad and I need a hug, err, and so I just need some high quality, heavy music. Hell, just list the hardest song you can think of. I want stuff like:

Emperor - Thorns on my Grave
Dimmu Borgir - Indoctrination
In Flames - Bullet Ride

Those three songs are getting heavy use right about now. Any recommendations with similar characteristics will be greatly appreciated. Basically I just want something that I can crank and let it wash over me. Thanx

Did your g/f go to camp because of your music? I like heavy stuff, but I just downloaded those three mp3's that you listed and .......<shiver>....well, I just hope your g/f does come back to you. Don't take offense, but to me that's "euro cheese metal". The one I can actually tolerate for a few minutes in Dimmu Borgir...reminds me of King Diamond. It's not heavy to me tho....just fast. I think any Slayer puts that stuff to shame in terms of heavy. Any Pantera is 10 tons heavier than that stuff. Just MHO. Hope you find something you like....

Down is actually quite good.

Slipknot is mall metal....but it's not terrible mall metal.

Ahh yes, Down. I just read about them in an old Rolling Stone I had laying around. Seems a guy from Pantera is in that group? I'll have to check them out.

Railer, I dont think Slayer even compares to the songs I listed. Dont get me wrong; I love Slayer, but I dont consider them all that heavy. But if you know of any bands that sound like Slayer, I'd be glad to know of them.

I also really like Metalcore, eg- Zao, Spitfire, Undying, Training for Utopia, and I have a few Living Sacrifice songs. LS sounds really good right now...

They might be mall metal, but they really rock the kit. They really break it down on a few songs.

I recently started listening to MSN Music. They've got about 10 really good metal stations.

You can find plenty of good songs and bands. Listening to nu-metal right now. Perfect for me - it's as if they're streaming my MP3 collection with a few extras...:)

you need some DANZIG, that is what you need. by far my fav band, I am totally obsessed with everything Glenn Danzig has did, as most of his fans are. It's one of those band people just really get into, and I am one of them. If you haven't heard any, I'd recommend "Danzig II: Lucifuge" as a good starting point, or even the newest album "Danzig 7:77".

Queens of the Stone Age is decidedly heavy, and Dream Theater is quite heavy prog rock. oh one more, rammstein is heavy german metal. it just sounds more heavy cause of all the german :)

ICSVortex - Nice list :), I've only heard a couple My Dying Bride songs but I really like them... I just heard Soilwork for the first time and I like them too.

I have to give cudos to ICSVortex for a good list. There are a lot of other good hardcore bands out there, Slipknot really does suck. I have some of their stuff, and it's not all that great. Korn is weak, and as for Slayer, they still kick ass...

Right now, I'm listening to

Bloodhag
Brutal Truth
Cannibal Corpse
Iced Earth
Candiria
Haste
and Slayer...

*edit*
Here is a list of some good bands...
