need some mobile phone help

dropped my phone a couple weeks ago and it's definately shot. Currently I have verizon, and their solution is for me to buy a new phone. I can't switch services yet because my contract isn't up for a while and verizon really has the best coverage in the area right now. I've been looking at the V3 and have been giving it some serious thought lately. It's a tri-band phone, and from what I've read I think I would be able to have it activated on my verizon plan.

Can anyone tell me if it would or wouldn't work. Is there a special version I need to get? Or can I just order it from Amazon / buy it from a cingular store and go activate it at verizon? Thanks.

Do Verison phones require SIM cards to activate service? As long as you get an unlocked V3, you should be able to just move the SIM card from one to the other and everything should work ok. If you get it from Amazon or Cingular, it'll probably be locked to Cingular. Take a look at eBay and see what you can find there.

there really isnt a special version to get. the phone is quad band, so if it works, then it works...and if it doesnt, then there is no way to get it to work.

why dont you go ask verizon....and ask them. If they say yes, you can buy it, but DO NOT buy it from cingular, becuase it will be locked to them...

buy it unlocked from Ebay

Verizon uses CDMA. The V3 is a quad band GSM phone, 850/900/1800/1900. It will not work on Verizon, unless I'm missing something.

Cingular V3 Razr is unlocked. It just comes poorly equipped.

no help here, but I just got my V3 in today...too busy studying for finals, but after 11AM tomorrow, I'll be having my fun. 😀

BunLengthHotDog and brtspears2, are you speaking from personal experience, from reviews you read, or from comparing the specs? My contract with Cingular expires in a couple weeks, and I was considering upgrading to the V3.

that's what I've been wondering. So there's no way it could work then?

Motorola Razor V3 won't work with Verizon. Verizon uses it's own CDMA network and you need a service provider with GSM to use this phone.

GSM Carriers in U.S.: T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T Next Generation

No, you will need to get a phone from a Verizon retailer.

I would suggest the Moto MPX220 Smartphone over the RAZR V3, the RAZR is all about looks, while the MPX220 is more about function. Check it out :

MPX220 SmartPhone

Nokia 6230 pwns both those phones hands down.. flat out the most advanced cell phone in the US right now...

haha, most of the people know nothing about cellphone, at least the basic!

verizon is CDMA, you need to get a phone from verizon ONLY. v3 and all other good phones are GSM. 90% of the world use GSM as well. you may want the v710 from verizon. that's the best phone they have for now.

this is what you get for using verizon.

it doesn't matter to OP. they won't run on verizon network.

gah...don't want to keep verizon...really don't want to pay $175 fee to get out of the contract. It wouldn't be so bad if all the verizon phones didn't completely suck.
