I just picked up some new 6x9 speakers for the rear deck of my 2002 Pontiac Grand Am 4dr and im a little confused about how to gain full access to the speakers themselves. Is there anyone who has done this before or has a link to a guide of some sort? thanks in advance.

Can't say 100% but it is either done from inside the trunk or at worst, the rear seat and package tray under the window must come out.

yea i was def. hoping for just being able to climb into the trunk and rewire everything. but i was reading somewhere that you may have to unscrew the 4 bolts that hold the back seat on and thats something i would really rather not do.. Is there any type of website that offers guides to these types of things?

ok. looked at the car for a bit and it seems as though i do have to take the whole rear deck out but it doesn't seem as difficult as i imagined. the rear deck itself is stationary but the cover for it (the carpet like layer on top of everything) is the only problem. Towards the front of the deck facing the front of the car, there are 3 flat brackets that go upwards and which keep the carpet layer from moving around. Also, the cover for the seat belts that is attached to the whole inside lining of the car is keeping me from moving the whole thing upwards.

please someone help me out...

You do it from the trunk. You're going to have to take a look in there and scope it out. At worst there is a close out panel of some kind that conceals the speakers that will have to be removed.

The speakers can be removed and installed from the trunk. I absolutely guarantee it.

Edit: Looks like I am wrong. See post below.

I don't think so. The speakers come out through the top, iirc. They will not come through the bottom. He will have to remove the carpeted cover, or wedge it up out of the way and remove the speakers by pulling them up through the deck, iirc.

I don't believe the speakers are even screwed in. They just have plastic lock tabs.

I believe my post above is in error because you are correct. I think the best method though is to remove the rear seat. It will make it easier to remove the package shelf. There may be child safety latches to remove also. If the car has fold down seats, it will make it much easier of course. However my googling has not come up with anything definitive for a 2002. This procedure is what I found for a 2003.
