Hey, I've browsed this website a lot, first post. Anyway, I'm wanting to build a system shortly, used for gaming and a little video ripping, with some photoshop usage.

My budget is 1000, but if I could spend less, that would be great. Two things I'm pretty certain I want are:

Antec 900 case = 139.00 with free shipping
EVGA 8800GTS 320 = 279.00

I want at least 2 gig of ram and maybe an e6600 or E6420. Probably just one HD right now.

Is it worth it to spend 150 on a mobo versus just 100? They're too numerous to list, but I've seen many different options like the MSI platinum that goes for around 100, versus other boards at 150.

Would it be wiser to get a 4300 and overclock it with an aftermarket heatsink? or more performance by overclocking an e6600 with a stock heatsink?

Would the E6420 be sufficient to run next gen games along with an 8800 gts, or would an E6600 be worth the extra 40 bucks?

I wouldn't worry at all about a CPU such as a dual-core C2D but if you could afford it, from what I can see you can, then why not go for the latter? You're going to need a lot of RAM that's quality latency for video ripping and a well spaced out processor, as far as games go I wouldn't worry. You'll want 2-4gb of ram primarily for video ripping, this can take time, and I would get the E6600 if you're not doing anything too heavy at once. Motherboards, are great for many things, the quality base counts down to: How long it lasts, Amount of ports/slots and the abilities: SATA/RAID etc. You'll want one that can atleast support SATA or SATA 2 and SLi... Decent amount of PCI and USB slots and you'll also want one that's not too cheap as to break within a month.. DFI or ASUS make some great motherboards for example.

You don't want a AMD chip for the type of buisiness you're getting into, as they are good. but not as good as a C2D, and with 1,000 you won't need it here's what I've compiled for a build:

The reason I'm using Zipzoomfly is for the cheap deliver/prices.

Oh yeah, you'll obviously want a hard-drive and PSU as well.. I totally forgot that...
get the Antec Neo 430w for like $60 and a Seagate or Western Digital 100GB for like $40...

if that's too much cheap out and buy a 300GB maxtor 16MB 10,000RPM for like $60, and then downgrade the CPU a notch...
other then that with what I listed you'd be set for years to come.
