So after 5 years of great performance with my x58 system (I7 975 EE, asus sabertooth mb ), I'm moving up to at least the 4770K but looking to the 4790K cpu. But I have a few questions first.

I have a quality 650w psu and a gforce 970. Will both the 4770k/4790k plus the 970 be enough psu.

Second to try and save some cash, I have a liquid cooler and a noctula cooler . So are the heatsink bolt pattern the same for the 4770k/4790k with the I7 975 heatsink bolt pattern?

Anything else that you would like to add to the info for the 4770k/4790k cpus?

Thanks.

Unless you can get the 4770K substantially cheaper than the 4790K get the 4790K. Socket 1150 has a different mounting mechanism then the socket 1366 so your cooler may not be compatible but there's a very big chance it will be because 1150 has the same mounting as sockets 1155/1156. Your PSU will be fine.

Looks like no, since you're not on LGA115*. But it shouldn't be hard to find a new mounting bracket if you don't have one already.

If you're a crazy overclocker you could try delidding. I wouldn't unless you can afford to buy another chip, but I'm conservative.

Thanks everyone! I will ask for some help when getting a MB. I have never delidding, but was pretty good at BSEL a core 2 duos years ago.

The noctua should have a mounting kit for 115*, so it won't be the same heatsink bolt pattern but it should be compatible.

Yes. Think twice, no three times whether you really want to delid. I lucked out big time once thinking I destroyed my CPU at my delid attempt. Synthetic stress-test temps don't mean squat if your CPU otherwise stays "cool" in games and apps. ("Cool" for Haswell: Below 80C :) ) And delidding just to have lower temps in Prime95 is a little silly if you never see those temps otherwise. If you use the Razor method or a knife, there is LOTS that can go wrong (no matter what anyone else tells you)...from cutting into the caps, cutting the die itself or cutting traces on the PCB). I watched many videos about delidding and also thought it's a piece a cake and every idiot can do it...but it turned out way more difficult, in fact I didn't even manage to cut into the black glue.

I did this a while ago for an older NH-U12P and got the 1150 bracket from them after two weeks. It's really good of them to provide long-term support for their products like this.
