Need Some Ideas!

My GF has an assignment. She needs ideas for her next paper. I thought this would be right up you guys's alley:

The "current event" assignment comprises of identifying an event that is currently unfolding or has occurred recently (within the last 6 months or year). You will then have to do some research that surrounds this event and offer your opinion, interpretation, conclusion or recommendations regarding the event. The following are a few examples of "current events"

Examples:

- George Lucas recently finished filming "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones'' -- except that ''filming'' is the wrong word here, because Lucas recorded the whole megillah in pixel format, using a ripsnorting digital camera. How will digital shooting, editing and distribution of movies change the entertainment industry?

- The brash, bold and innovative Richard Branson's Virgin recently announced its entry into the already hurting wireless market in the US. Why now? How will it change the competitive landscape? How can Virgin really differentiate itself in a near-commodity market?

Anything good? It obviously does not have to be technical in nature....

I would use the George Lucas one. Only because it's probably a subject I know well enough to BS the entire paper.

Of course if a bilbliography is needed, then that's a different story.

Rule: Don't BS the paper. Use actual sources for research and reference them. If for no other reason than to know that you can do it.

Okay, the examples are EXAMPLES.... she can't use those

Also, the Prof. isn't looking for references and such, just lots of exhibits and cool stats/etc....

Any topic ideas?

Pharmaceutical companies are now in the process of racing to be the first to have a stockpile of the smallpox vaccine on hand to distribute. What would their responsibility be if this virus were to mutate into something more sinister?

Great idea...this is exactly the type of thing that she's looking for.

How 'bout the sniper. It's a current event and it's still unfolding. Since there hasn't been a resolution your gf can make any assumptions and come to any conclusions she wants to.
