Need some ideas for a LAN party:)

My boss just told me that he'd like for me to put together a monthly LAN party here at work (for the public). He said it is my project/baby and to do with it what I will. If viable enough he forsees it being it's own business and me running it.

I am 100% open to suggestions, ideas, etc. on any aspect of this (planning, implementing, games, systems, food, costs, whatever)

as the administrator of such an event, you MUST have the following:

DHCP server
large supply of CatV
large supply of extra power cables and power strips (no matter what, people always forget these)
liability waivers
etc

All good stuff. Now, besides hookers🙂, what can I do to make this original and/or set it apart from the norm.

well duh, they can't get women any other way.

you could have prizes - sell raffle tickets for relatively cheap. stack the odds so that every other week a conspirator wins the best prize, and just returns it. have the best prize always the same thing. 🙂

instead of pizza, get tacos and fried rice. 😀

Set up some large screen monitors as Spectators. that way people can also watch the action live.
DHCP, DNS, WINS, all sould be running. Plenty of good switches. a dedicated pure server for each game, that way no cheats can be used. Music, DVDs, plenty of chips, dips, sodas, beer if people are over 21. Dedicated break time for dinner/ lunch.

Schedule board of games,

I really like the spectator idea. I have a projector and screen I can hook up for that. Man I'm hyped about this.

I'm also thinking of making some T-shirts saying something cheese like: "I got fragged @ (Company name)"

Good idea? Bad idea?

One idea is to make sure you do this in San Jose, CA, so that I can participate.😀 (I'll supply the free porn)

Once we blow up on the East coast I'll need some West coast representation. You can buy into my franchise!

How many people will you be hosting at this LAN party? That will make a BIG difference as far as what you'll need to be successful. Are you talking 25-30 people? 50? 100? 250? This could get VERY expensive depending on how many people you'll be hosting.....so you might want to warn your boss about that possibility. It's a GREAT idea but should you run into a wall as far as funds go, it would be good to know what your limits are. 🙂

Also, will this be a free event or a paid event? If it's a paid event, and it's going to be coming up before Christmas.....you might do some donation ideas. Depending on the price of admission, you could have some of the attendees bring toys that could be donated to needy children for the holidays. In exchange, you could lower their admission a few dollars or perhaps half it. That would help them out by making it easier for them to afford to come and you would also be helping some needy children who might not have a chance to get very much for Christmas. 🙂

Si, si. Start rippin' those CDs.

One idea would be to have someone from a local computer store or something that can sell parts on the spot. (I.E. A guy's CD Drive goes wacky or something.) That might be somewhat complicated to set up though, but if it's popular enough, hey, you can do anything.

Good Luck! Sounds like it'd be a lot of fun.

Oh yeah and you'll need speakers, lots and lots of speakers. 🙂 STROBE LIGHTS AND DISCO BALLS, yes. Lots and lots of strobe lights and disco balls.
