Need some honest people

i like the music.. obviously with some professional production/mixing it could sound a lot better.. i like the acoustic guitar in it. .i used to be a huge fan of acoustic guitar only music.. i have found however that adding an electric will add a lot to the music.. it makes it fuller... not sure if you have any friends that play it or if you can but you might want to try it out...

not too big a fan of your voice to be honest with you.. thats just personal opinion though... i like the songs overall though.. good lyrics...

Proletariat is equating honesty to negativity, and coming off like a complete tool.

I do music professionally.

In fact I started and currently run my own independant music group.

I sit down and listen to tracks pretty much every other day and this is what I do.

I'm not Quincy Jones but I like to pretend I know what I'm talking about.

Considering we do work with other professional musicians, they also seem to think we know what we're doing.

I've never worked with someone, and not worked with them afterwards so they tend to stick around a bit.

And if I can't critique it as well as I think it needs, i.e. I'm not too familiar with the genre, I can send it off to people who can.

Anyways I'm in school, preparing for a mid-term by neffing.

I'll take a listen later on this weekend and shoot you a PM.

Not to be rude but I think we'll get further by talking 1 on 1.

So far i listened to the first song and i enjoyed it. To be very honest, the technical side of it sounds very good. Just to be able to hear all the instruments is great. Not alot of looping which is great also (Y)

For what it is, it's not bad at all. You shuold get a band together and do a show. Record it and distribute it on etree.org. YOu'd probably be betterthan 90% of the random ("Other") bands that get posted there.

EDIT: I wanted to add, that for a basement, that turned out pretty darn good.

EDIT 2: And the web site and it's design is very good. The music loaded VERY quick which is a typical aggrivation I have with sites that have video/music.

I like it. But I think it needs a climax. The energy level of the song sounds pretty much even all the way through. It'd be nice for it to kinda build up, and reach a climax, and die down.

I think the vocals in the are too "breath-y."

I think the songs need a proper drummer on a kit.

Musically the songs are okay, but not stellar. There are a few parts that have a little hook to them, though. A lot of the lyrics seem kinda cliché to me. Megan's Song isn't bad.

It'd be cool if the vocals explored a larger range.

There's a particular downward progression after the first verse in "Live it Through" thats something like Dm - Dm/C# - C - Cm and for whatever reason it just doesn't sit well with me.

You remind me quite a bit of "The Choir", who most people might not know.

The music is VERY well done, and after listening to the songs a few times, I really like them. As a few other have said, the songs don't have enough high points to keep me listening for a long time. Overall, I like them quite a bit, and the recording is much better than I would expect for a basement. It sounds better than a lot of bands that record in a studio. I'll keep watching your site for more music and updates.

knarf is written in java. its a great project, but its not finished which is why its not up yet, check back at around the end of April and will be posted up.

I listened to a few of the songs. Before I criticize, let me say it's obviously better than anything I could do musically -- I only play piano. This definitely is pretty good for an amateur with no fancy studio equipment. But this is also not my style of music, so I couldn't really "enjoy" it.

You remind me a bit of my cousin's band. For the most part, they played slow songs. They had some talent, but the music wasn't right to fit any genre of today. They played in coffee houses and at a few public events, but the only people who liked it were family members, grandmas, and a few groupies.

With that said, the first thing I would do is modernize your music IF your plan on trying to sell it. If you are just doing this for creative/entertainment purposes, then by all means... carry on.

Second, I have to agree that the vocals are too breathy. You said you only have two octaves. If you want to get really serious, you may want to take some voice lessons to try to improve on that.

Lastly, while it's great you can play all those instruments -- it lends itself to the phrase "jack of all trades, master of none". So you may want to take time to really master one of them (probably the guitar). That way, even if your music doesn't work out you could try to join an existing band (or form one yourself) where you would be the lead-guitarist.

To summarize, the music is pretty good -- however, if your intent is to make this a serious endeavor then 1. modernize the music, 2. take voice lessons, and 3. master the guitar. You'll see a dramatic improvement in the results.

I thought the melodies were lovely. I don't typically listen to this kind of singer songwriter style of music - despite that, overall I enjoyed your songs.

I don't really see a problem with the voice (that others are pointing out) - I thought your voice and style of singing/ delivery suited the style and nature of the songs.


Plus I agree with ryan, the OP is very cute. Which is probably a good thing to be for a singer songwriter.
