Hi there, I'm new to this forum so please don't flame..err..insult me.

Actually, I'm 13, and I want to build my own pc..
Well, I have the choice of buying one..but i really want to build it myself, so its easier to upgrade and stuff, BUT my mom won't let me, she said she doesn't trust me to build one, and if it would work or not, so she doesnt want me to waste like 2000 dollars if the computer doesn't work and i screw it up or something...
so, i was wondering if you guys can help me, IF youhave any spare parts that you dont want or just lying around, and you dont know what to do with it? send it to me! it can be a motherboard, soundcard, cd drive, hardrive, anything would help, it can be as slow as a 75mhz or 4 mb ram, or a 1ghz hardrive, i dont care, i jsut need some parts and then when i get enough, ill like buy some cheap weak stuff to build a computer, and if i actually do make it work, my mom would give me ...err..i dont wanna tell ya how much cuz you might try to ripe me off by selling me stuff for a lot more then it cost, to pay for my dream machine.../me drools..anything u got is fine...

Also, for a beginner builder like me, what kind of motherboard should i get? i thought the abt kt7 was good, but then i saw a post saying its hard to use or something, so...any easy boards to work with...

another question is there any booooks or websites you guys reocmmend to help me build a comptuer...

Im posting this topic to all the forum places...like hardware, motherboard, all of them cuz i dont know exactly where this fits...so dont yell at me or something, just delete it if u want....

Well if you actually read all this, i say thank you because this was kinda long...thanks for taking your time out of your life and into mine =)!!

Check out Pricewatch!

Why not just buy one with all the extras you want or with open Slots, you can ask the sales person to open the the Box, granted they'll look at you funny because it's not everyday they get customers that actually want to look at the guns of the machine, but they will!

Yeah i actually go there a lot, but my parents wont let me spend like 2000 dollars on something...they want me to know how to build one, and well how can i do that without her giving me the omney?!! thats what i asked her and she said too bad, just buy a brand name one!! NOOOOOOO i dont want to do that

Heh.. I remember being where you are right now. Wasn't that long ago (6 years now.. Seems longer I guess 🙂). You're definitley on the right track, this is what I had to do to prove to my parents that I was able to build my own system. Basically I scrounged up spare parts from friends and built my system, and the same day I powered it up for the first time, the parents brought home a shiny new Packard Bell 486. Yay. (Yes, it was a POS)

Anyway, right now I don't really have any spare parts in the low end to offer you until I decide what I'm going to do with some of this stuff.

I'll see what I can find laying around (I know I have a low end AT Socket 7 board, but I lost the PS/2 and serial connections for it, so I can't sell it in good faith).

The KT7 is a great board in my opinion, don't know what you mean by hard to use. It has plenty of options in BIOS, but the defaults work just fine too.

Good luck 🙂

well , i dont have any friends, cept one maybe....even if i had friends, no one in our school knows jack sh*t about computer, i ask what mhz your comp is and they let say..what?

anyone that can help please do!!

BTW BlueAngel are you a member of Team Anandtech?

If you join Team Anandtech & run either SETI (search for Alien radio signals) or RC5 (encryption code cracking/testing) then you'll likley get more help around this forum 😉

that looks like it 😀 I took my test at the sylvin learning center near my house, in the book it tells you some places that will issue the test.
