Need some help

I have been assigned the task to build a $700 pc (including monitor) that can play all the newest games (WoW, HL2, CS:S etc) well and also purchase a laptop that will serve a college student around $1,000-1,500. I need a little help and feel kinda overwhelemd. What do you guys recommend?

EDIT: THis will also be the first time building a pc.

for the desktop, what do you consider "well". It will be quite a tough job with that small of a budget.

For the laptop, i would suggest a Dell. If you just need one for light work (non-gaming) then you could get a Dell Inspirion for about $699 (or less with better discounts)

I guess like decent fps like playable FPS like 50 or so you know?
