Hey everyone.
So I'm not a total beginner when it comes to computer hardware but I haven't been too updated with the whole computer hardware scene for the past little while.
The motherboard on my old computer recently died on me and instead of replacing it, I'm thinking about getting a complete system. I built my old computer several years back so I do have some experience but I don't know if I feel confident enough to build this one. My old computer had a 3.0GHz Pentium 4, 1gb ddr400 RAM, and a geforce 6600GT. It's pretty ancient compared to today's standards but I'm looking build another computer that doesn't take too much out of my wallet.
My budget isn't set, but I'm looking ta about 700-800 dollars CAD, which isn't a lot I know. i'm aiming for a fairly low-end system, but with a bit of upgradeability options.
For specs.. this is what I"ve currently looked at so far:
Case: I'm looking at the Antec Sonata series.. It's about $140 which is a bit on the expensive side, but it includes a solid power supply. (Antec still makes good powersupplies right?)
Motherboard: No idea what I should be looking for... something fits the socket of my cpu, ram and video card? Suggestions here would be appreciated. Any particular brands or chipsets, I shoudl be looking for?
CPU: I"m pretty set on getting a Core2Duo. I've looked at the E7300 because it fits my price range though I have no idea if it's a good processor for the price. Any other suggestions similar to it would be nice. I don't plan on overclocking it so I don't need a cpu that can overclock well.
RAM: I'm going to get 4GB and it seems to be DDR2-800 would be my best bet? I think?
HD: I'm probably going for a SATA 300-500GB HD, I don't really need that much space.
Graphics Card: I'm going to need help here. I'm looking at spending ~$100 on it and I've looked at the Radeon 3650. I'm trying to get the card that has a good price/performance ratio .. aka best bang for my buck? Is there any card out there in this price range that would do the trick? I'm powering 2 monitors btw, but I don't think this shoudl be a problem with most current-gen cards.
That's pretty much all the questions I have regarding hardware. Any help would be appreciated.
As for the application of my system, there'll be some gaming done on it but most games are several years old and my old 3.0ghz p4/6600gt set up was able to handle it fine. Otherwise its just a general-usage computer.
Sorry for the long post and thanks for the replies!
