I got a slim PS2 about a month ago. I just plugged it in for the first time tonight. For whatever reason, I cannot get it to let me select DTS in the DVD or game menu at all. I can get it to play 5.1 movies but it will not play a DTS audio track.

Does anyone have any idea what the heck I could be doing wrong? My reciever appears to be working fine as I can play 5.1 movies. I am at a loss for what to do next.

there could be a setting on your reciever that will send a dts stream. make sure you check the owners manual. sometimes a reciever will read pcm/dd only and not dts.

Because PS2 can't decode DTS. You'll have to use optical out and connect the PS2 to a something that can decode DTS.

Ok I got it to work! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. The new slim PS2 has DVD player version 3.1 I'm used to the old one. Its a very tricky fix. You have to start up the dvd, then stop it while its playing. Heres the kicker, you have to "clear" the resume playback by clicking the clear button in the menu. Then and only then can you turn DTS on. Very wierd.
