Need some help with formatting hard drive...

I'm going to format my hard drive tonight, but I want a tutorial that will take me through it step by step. I have a Sony Vaio PCV RX 572 and am using the System Resource CD as the DOS boot disk.

The problem is that the computer has 2 hard drives (C and D) running from one hard drive. I want to combine them both in the formatting process so there is only one hard drive (Excluding my 120 gig G drive used for media).

Will anything happen to my 120 gig drive during the process? Should I back the files up just incase?

I found a tutorial on the Sony site, but it doesn't include anything about combining the 2 drives.
 
Just to clarify here: Do you have TWO physical hard drives (one is a 120GB), and the primary drive is PARTITIONED into two partitions (C and D)?

What OS are you going to install?
