Need some help with DJing equipment ( what to buy )

I want to get into DJing and all. But I want to know what kind of stuff to get. Like whats the best out there for a reasonable price. My parents will be paying for it so the max is around 5,000.00 but I don't know what I want to do yet. I want to have atleast 4 speakers and have a good selection of all the new and old music out there. I also want to have it so that my computer could be hooked up to the equipment because I have all the new MP3's and all...But I don't know if I would want to do that because you never know if you are going to get caught or what not. But The main question is what is some reasonable prices for used equipment and what kind of equipment would you get with 5 grand, or is that to less? I really appreciate it for the coments and concerns.

2 x Technics 1200 MK5g or Numark TTX-1 or Vestax 2300
2 x Denon S5000
2 x Numark CDX-1
1 x Vestax Handy Trax because they are cool
4 x Jbl Eon 15 G2
2 x Jbl Eon Subwoofer
Final Scratch
1 x Rane TTM-56
1 x Xone 92
1 x Rane Empath
2 x Electrix EQ killers

And spend the rest on records (if you're using them) and cd's. Don't use illegal mp3's, fool. Actually all that above is probably more than 5000..heh.

However, it looks like right now you have no idea what you're doing and you're about to spend 5000 dollars without and previous info. I say, learn more about what you want to do, what you want to spin, and if you're actually commited to this.

I think thats a little too much for someone starting out... lol... when i started... i just had the 1200s... a vestax pmc-06proa... all hooked up to a ghetto boombox... ...

Here's a real tip..... approach it like a business. It's fun and all, but if you want to earn a living, you'll need to come up the professional ladder a rung or two.
#1. Equipment can be had on eBay and through the Penny ads for CHEAP! Hunt for bargains. They can be had as there are tons of DJ's out of work and looking to unload their gear.
#2 Develope contacts. Other DJ's, record co-op's, party planners and Rave Promoters are who you need to know. Introduce yourself, give them a business card, you'll need some of those and some generic flyers that you can fill in the gig info and hand out. No dancers means no gigs. You'll need to cultivate a following.
#3. Got QUICKEN? You'll need some way to keep track of the money. It IS ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS, after all. It's boring, it sux, but unless you know where you're spending money, you'll leak it everywhere you go and have none when you're old and bitter... like me
#4. At some point, try to remember you're doing this because it's fun. Don't forget that.

buy cheap (used) stuff, so that if you dont like it it's not such a huge financial burden

dj'ing definately isn't for everyone (it wasn't for me)

Really? I don't know where I can buy used equipment tho. I don't have an ebay account and my parents won't let me make one ....so I can't buy off there..

If you're not going to be in it for scratching, I'd suggest investing in a pair of Pioneer's new DJ turntables which act exactly like 1200s. They're about a grand a piece but well worth if if you ask me.

Actually i'm not going to need the turntables at all. The DJing is for indian parties and such. Not that much of american parties, maybe a few school things but not parties, since my parents don't want me to. That way I would save with out getting the turntables.... or do you still need them?

Your best bet is to just give up now. Unless you're looking at it as a hobby, in which case you can get some 1200s and a vestax mixer and hook it up to whatever stereo you already have, and use the rest of your money for recrods. If you're looking at it as a living, chances are you aren't going to go anywhere unless you have the dedication and time to practice pretty much all the time. Theres just way too many bedroom DJs looking for their big break, and if you want it you will really have to go after it and even then you will probbably get shot down.

I'm just being honest with you. I know a lot of 'DJs', at least 10 or 15 of them, and about 1/3 of them are serious about making a living at it. Only one of them is actually going anywhere with it and thats because he knows a lot of people in the industry and he makes it a point to constantly try and meet new people, and stay on top of his game as far as his ability to DJ goes. He lives with his parents and makes enough to pay for his car and whatever rent he pays them and thats about it.

don't forget that ASCAP and BMI will be more than happy to rape you up the ass for playing their artist's work in a public place without paying them royalites. these organizations literally exist solely to sue people like you, so go ahead, make their day.

When you join a record C0-op, the licenses are taken care of. Generally speaking, the VENUE is responsible for the payment of license fees. Paying ASCAP / BMI / SESAC is the least of your worries while on an amatuer level. When you get to spinninging in casinos and such, THEY pay the license fees. BTW, there are artists out there who are not affiliated with those Publishing Rights Houses who freely distribute their music. If it doesn't list BMI / ASCAP et al on the credits, they are not involved in anyway.
There are plenty of places to get REAL, accurate information. DO NOT TAKE anyone's word for things legal. Do the homework on your own.
