Need some help with a proxy server.

I have been told that if I set up a proxy server at home I can access it from school to get to the blocked gaming sites. If I can actually do this, what will I need to get one up and running on a Pentium 120? I am connected to the internet with a cable modem through a small lan. What is a good software package to do this with?
