Need some help with a Midi file...

I tried like... 5 programs, and none of them could convert my Midi files to Wav files (something with my soundcard... Onboard🙁). I only need to convert 2 files, (2 minutes, and 12 seconds). Can someone please post his Email, so maybe one of you can convert it for me, and I'll send it back).
Thanks,
linkgoron

look for dbpoweramp. so far it's converted any music file i've ever wanted to convert. i think it does midi files too, but i guess that's not guaranteed.

which one did you "nope" to? winamp? if winamp can play it back, then i'm nearly certain it can convert it to plain ole .wav

go into preferences -> options (or was it options->preferences? one of those). then select "Output". then select "diskwriter something something". configure it and then hit play on winamp. (make sure you don't have "repeat" select in winamp or else it's just gonna keep going and going and going creating a bunch of .wav files 😀)

oh, and then don't forget to change your output back to what it was.

one more thing before i give up on winamp 😉
here's a more detailed set of instructions: http://drfsupercenter.agff.net/HTML/Winamp%20MIDI%20to%20WAV%20Conversion.htm

(note: it didn't realize this but it says not to use winamp 3 and suggests winamp 2.91 instead, check oldversion.com)

Well, there's an older version (2.79 I think). I'll try that one... But it's not the same (not even close) to the 2.91 version🙁

EDIT:
Well it's the same thing with other coverters... It just makes an empty file🙁

A midi file isn't a sound file though, no more than a recipe is the same thing as a prepared dish. That said, it wouldn't suprise me if some program out there does this, but you're at their mercy as to how the instruments are interpreted. Even if they adhere to the standard for which instrument is which, who knows what quality the instrument samples will be.

Do as has been suggested: Open midi player software. Open recording software. Play midi file. Press record (assuming your mixer settings are good). Then you have the midi file captured to audio, and the ability to save in the audio format of your choice. This is what you want after all, right?

edit: For what it's worth, you don't have to quote what amounts to the entire thread just to respond to a single point someone made. Of course you're far from the only person that does this here.

Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure Fruity Loops will "render" midi (and other formats) to audio output, but doubt you'd be interested in that software.

I had so much headache trying to figure out how to do this. The solution is quite simple. You don't even need any extra software.

Just go to control panel and go to Sounds and Audio Devices, then click the Audio tab, then click the Volume button under Sound recording, then put a check under "Stereo Mixer" or "Output" or "Mixer" or similar and set the volume to about 1/4 or 1/3. Then open up Windows' built-in Sound Recorder and hit record, then play back the midi file in WMP or Winamp and it should record it.

You only get 60 second with Sound Recorder so I suggest Audacity for recording. You might need to tweak the midi volume in volume control and the recording volume where I mentioned before so it sounds exactly like it did when u played it. You can get Lame mp3 encoder and Audacity will be able to export mp3's.

Here's a sample midi I just converted as rendered through a Chaintech AV-710 card

Do I get a cookie? :cookie:🙂

My favorite soft-midi player that I've been using for almost 10 years will do this:
wingroove: http://www.wg7.com/en/
file -> create wav file
unregistered version will only let you output 30 secs of the midi though. but its a good midi player and only $20 and even works on windows 3.1 on a 486
