I know this is prob simple, but can't seem to figure it out.

When going into a game,my screen will always shift to the right.
i have to adjust it to make it center.
then will have to readjust when going back to desktop.

Startup, and desktop are fine.just going into any games will shift the screen.no matter if its 640x480,800x600 etc.does it everytime.

i tried changing refresh rates, but still no go.
allthough,at first i was having problems with it doing it from Startup,to desktop.but i changed refresh rates and it fixed that problem.but refresh won't help the gaming problems.
and i have the correct Monitor installed.and all latest Drivers.

Win98SE
Voodoo Banshee 16Mb
NEC MultiSync Monitor

Hopefully this is a simple fix.
i'd appreciate the help.

Have you tried centering your games, then choosing the "saved" feature on your monitor's onscreen display?
Just centering alone won't help unless you save it once you have it set correctly.

Also, are you running your games full-screen, or in a Window?

Running Full screen.
Half-Life,and others.

Not sure what ya mean by saved, unless you meant Apply the new settings.
i have applied the settings, and it fixed the PC's startup screen from being uncentered, but didn't fix any games.

I had this problem on past PC's. I believe the root of the evil is your monitor. When I switched to a newer PNP monitor, the problem went away. Try a different monitor.

Good Luck! 😀

it is the monitor...

the monitor 'remembers' its position at certain refresh rates and resolution. I solved this on a friends ciomputer by making the veiwable area smaller on each of the refresh rates and resolution and centreing them all then making the veiwable area as large as i possible.

you may want to go back to the factory defults and start fromt here.

It could be the monitor. I have had the same problem before. Once it was the monitor not set correctly (it looked fine in Windows but not in games like you say. I adjusted it both in the game and in Windows and it fixed it. The other times (several) it was the Windows refresh rate. Even though it was ok in Windows, it did almost exactly that in games. I fixed mine like this, it has happened more than once - in both Win98SE and WinME.

I would set my screen size to 1152x864 with 16 bit color. Apply. Go back in, set the refresh rate to Default. Apply. Reboot. Make sure thats still the same. Now set the refresh to 75, Apply. Set the color to 32. Apply. All fixed, game works perfectly now.

Hope this helps. I could be the monitor, could be the windows refresh rate. I've had this happen with my old 17" Acer and my brand new 19" pixie.
