Hey! I’m a pc boob, built a PC in 2014 and that’s it. It’s got a 800 watt EVGA power supply, msi gaming 5 MB, 16 gb of Ram, EVGA 980ti. I think it’s the power supply that’s crapped out. It’s not turning on anymore, a few days ago it was but was getting constant blue screens of death. When I attempt to turn it on it gets stuck in a loop of attempting to power up then shutting off(never gets to the point of anything displaying on the screen. It literally happens within seconds of pressing the button, I can hear the PSU clicking when I push the power button so I know it’s working) What do you guys think? If I do get a new power supply what wattage do you suggest? I may upgrade my PC one day to something like a 4060ti, so I want a PSU that can support modern parts too. I just ordered a 750w Corsair, but now I’m worried that won’t be enough for modern stuff like the 4060Ti and eventually a new CPU and motherboard

When troubleshooting it's best to start with the basics. Disconnect all non-essentials from the motherboard. USB, front panel connectors, SATA hard drives, fans except the CPU cooler, even the graphics card if your CPU has integrated graphics. Use only 1 stick of RAM, typically in the slot furthest from the CPU. You will need to use a screwdriver to jump the power on pins on the motherboard if you don't have a dedicated button on the motherboard for power.

In regards to the 750W PSU that is more than enough for a current system with a 4060Ti. It actually pulls less power than the 980ti.

It is always good to get and Keep this:

If the indication is that the PSU is OK

As mentioned above disconnect the cables that goes to the Motherboard. Look at the Mobo manual to find the two pin that need to be short for 2 seconds to start ON. If it start and tell you that there is no HD/SSD then connect the HD/SSD....

I bought the same Corsair 750!

Regarding your Corsair, a 4060ti is going to draw LESS power than your 980ti.

On the CPU side of things, well that is going to depend on what you buy. Some of Intel's CPUs draw way more power than their TDP suggests.

Got an RTX 4070 paired with an AMD 7600x and it sips about 275 watts gaming without ray-tracing or around 325 gaming with ray-tracing. It draws so little power I have not bothered to replace the temporary 500 watt PS we slapped in there to get it running. I'd be more nervous had I gone with an Intel CPU.

BTW there is good reason to go Intel if you can feed them enough power they are much faster on productivity workloads but right now they say the AMD 7800-3D is the best gaming CPU.

Ok guys, I got an i7 12700kf, 32gb of gddr4 ram, and an asrock motherboard with 8 sata ports, since I have an absurd amount of hard drives. I’m waiting on a new mounting kit for my Noctua cpu cooler since it’s current mount isn’t for current gen cpus. I’m gonna to try to use my current PSU and GPU, but I’m worried my GPU is dead. In which case I’ll just fork over and get a cheap 4060, or 4070 if I’m feeling spicy.

IMO the 4060 cards are the worst choice in the 40 Series. Consider your alternatives, which are AMD 6000/7000 or the 4070 Super.

Whatever’s a cheap and decent option is probably what I’ll go with, thanks! Also, I feel like I made a mistake getting the KF. I might return it and get the K for 25 extra bucks. What do you think?

No obvious choices and it kind of depends on the occasional sale. As a rough guide:

Radeon RX 6650 XT 7600 - $240 (Intel Arc is worth considering too)
XFX RX 6800 - $380
RX 7800 XT - $485
GeForce RTX 4070 Super - $590

Intel Arc

It gets a bad wrap because it's the red headed stepchild that's new to the family but, they perform well and give a boost to the $$$. A750 is a cheaper 16GB GPU to consider.

I returned the KF, I’m just gonna shell out the 20 bucks for the K. I see the value in having an integrated card. It can help me determine if my GPU is the problem.

Two more value GPU options with ample VRAM to consider:
