What I am building and its use:
I am looking at building a new PC with the primary use being for gaming purposes. I want to Overclock a X2 4400 to whatever I can get it to, so long as it is very stable, so I am hoping to get it to 2400 or 2600. I am NOT out to set records or anything. Stability is more important than an extra 100 Mhz that crashes on me.
I am looking at getting the X1900XT with the RD580 motherboards coming out for crossfire purposes (down the road, not initially), however I am open to waiting another 4 weeks to see what nVidia offers in the 7900GTX. If the 7900GTX is faster, I would get 1 now, along with the Asus A8N32 SLI, giving me the option of buying another 7900GTX in it at some point down the road.
On the memory front, I think I have two solid types of memory picked out (One good for low latency, the other for over clocking) but I am not sure which I should use or which is faster for my purposes. Any ideas?
Lastly, I want to have a nice aesthetic appeal to the system as well, which is why I bought the Antec P160W and am using some LED based fans and such.
So with all that being said, I am looking for some feedback on from people on what I want to build, so thanks in advance to anybody who replies.
Here are the specs I am looking at:
CPU:
[*]AMD 64 X2 4400 (Goal of OCing between 2400-2600)
Motherboard:
I am not 100% sure here what to go for because it partly depends on the video card, but I am debating waiting for the RD580 which should be out within the next 2 weeks. Reason being, at somepoint it would allow for Crossfire capability and I really like the X1900XT price/performance.
IF I end up waiting to see the 7900 Benchmarks and it turns out to be an overall better buy than the X1900XT, I would go with the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe.
However, say I don't want to wait for either the RD580 Board or 7900 video card and I just decide to get a plain old single PCI-E based motherboard (that I may swap out at a later time), what is a good board to get? I prefer Asus as a brand as well...
Video Card:
Bother with a video cooler?
[*]ATI X1900XT
Memory:
Not sure about what memory to use here...but it needs to be Corsair or Kingston Ram (My employer gives me a 4 year 0 interest loan, but it must be used locally)
[*]Corsair TWINX2048-4000PT / DDR-500 (XMS-4000) / 3-4-4-8
or
[*]Corsair TWINX2048-3500LLPRO / DDR-434 (XMS-3500LL) / 2-3-2-6
Power Supply:
Going for a good PSU that will allow for future SLI/Crossfire scalability. I looked at the OCZ 600, but its too expensive. I like the LED's though... hmmm 😉
[*]Antec TrueControl II 550
or
[*]TruePower II 550
Case:
Case is already ordered and final.
[*]Antec P160W
Case Fans:
[*]2 Antec TriCool 120MM Blue LED Case Fans for front and rear.
[*]I also have a 5 1/2 bay fan that I can use as well...
CPU Heatsink & Fan:
Will this fit in my case? Do I need to really worry about "room"?
Should I just stick with the Stock and take whatever I can get and not worry about it?
[*]Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro
Thermal Paste:
[*]Arctic Cooling MX-1 High Performance Thermal Compound
or
[*]Arctic Silver 5
Sound Card:
[*]Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Xtrememusic
Hard Drive:
I own a Raptor 74 right now, so I am either going to buy another Raptor 74 to pair up in Raid 0
or
Go full out with 2 Raptor 150gig drives, in Raid 0.
I will probably stick in an extra"backup" SATA or EIDE drive in either case, so I can backup files onto.
Cables:
UV Reactive (and rounded) SATA, Floppy and ATA133 Cables for the DVD's.
If anybody has any suggestions for some good cables, let me know. I want a nice "aesthetic" appeal to my case as well...
