Need some help My disks got unmounted improperly, what should i do?

Something happened to my secondary and third IDE hard drives. In WinXP i cannot acces data from them and when i click on them it tells me to format. I have a lot of data in them and don't want to lose it. When i tryed chkdsk it won't let me. When i tryed tools like parition magic it says the disk was unmounted imporperly, but didn't fix it. I tryed to remap the letters but that didn't work too. What can i do to fix this problem?

Are they both using the same ide channel? Maybe the controller went bad.. pretty unlikely though.
In bios, are the drives being recognized? If so are these raided or anything like that?
Check the jumpers and cables, maybe one came loose or fell off.
