Need Some Help - Currently Have Volcano 6Cu

Like I said, I currently have a Volcano 6Cu in an Antec SX830 with two Antec case fans. I find this to be rather noisy but am not sure if it is at all possible to reduce the noise. Can anyone reccomend fans or other products that could help me out in this predicament. Thanx

btw, im cooling a athlon xp 1800 as you can see below

Volcano 6Cu: that's what you get for buying cheap HSF units 😉

I'd get a Thermalright AX7 and toss on the YSTech fan with 28dBa and 38cfm (or something like that). It'd be like $35 or so, but it's all worthwhile 🙂

can i pick one of those up at frys or do i have to order online?
Also, my case has two more slots for fans. Would it be worthwhile to fill those up?

I don't think Frys carries any decent HSF units. Those coolermaster pipes cool well, but the noise is unbearable!

I'd get the AX7 from Newegg for $28. The YSTech can be had if you look around this forum a bit more (there's a link to the store that sells 'em.....I forgot). If you want, you can fill up your other case cooling slots with fans. But the YSTech is kinda expensive for those purposes; I'd use L1A fans there 'cuz they're dirt cheap 🙂 But I dunno how much case fans can do, since I didn't order enough L1A's to go around my whole case.....shoulda got more 😱

The person in this topic (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=37&threadid=733604) just said how noisy the ax7 was, is that accurate?

Well, the heatsink is just a huge slab of metal....they make no more sound than plastic things. His HSF is noisy since he is using the Delta Screamer (53dBa 80cfm). That monster is 1000 times louder than a L1A (21dBa). The YSTech is only 29dBa or so, and the Panaflo L1A is 21dBa.

As to the possibility that you won't like it, it's just a piece of metal, and you can polish it up a bit more if you want. Benches up to this point show that it cools better than the Alpha 8045 (just weeks ago, this was the monster in CPU cooling; it cooled well with super-weak virtually noise-free fans).

I ordered my Alpha 8045 online (before the AX7 came out), and it was no problem at all 🙂 The heatsink was in good condition since it comes in a box 😀

ya, figured that out a little too late 😛
i cant seem to find that specific ystech anywhere though
i found a few but they were all 40+ dba

So many people are anti-Thermaltake. I figure as soon as people start using the Volcano 7+, public opinion will change.

the 6u works fine, just a little noisy
my current cpu temp is 41 and it dips down to 38. pretty sure thats quite cool
also, the vox i got it in says its 30dBa but i dont know if thats true since thats just about the lowest any fan goes (28 is lowest ive seen)
