Hello,

For the first time in a few years I have decided to bump up my little XPS 630i. However, there are just way to many options and considering the age of this old fella I was hoping for some feedback on a video card upgrade within the $100 - $200 range. Here are the current specs:

Dell XPS 630i
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz 3.01GHz
RAM: 8GB
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce GTS 240
PSU: 750 Watt MAX Model DT50E
Win 8 64-bit Operating System

Thanks.

With that processor and assuming you are at 1080p I would recommend nothing more than a GTX 650 Ti Boost.

will my ancient rig even be able to fully take advantage of that or is it just as well to stick to the gtx 650ti boost?

It should not really be a bottle neck and the extra cuda cores should help in gpu intensive titles. However games that are cpu intensive such as SCII will probably run about the same until you buy a better cpu. The 650ti boost is essentially more like a crippled 660, rather than an improved 650ti. Since the 660 is on sale, it would just seem smarter to pay a a couple bucks more and get a considerable performance boost.

I see, thanks. I'll move ahead then with the 660 SC. Now I noticed that both the 660 and my current gts 240 are SLI. is it worth coupling those two together or will the 240 just cause a mess?

You can't SLI two different models. Get the 660 and move the 240 to an HTPC or something.
