Need Some good DVD burner software?

cbn

Lifer
Can someone name some good software for use on Windows XP that will let me burn DVDs for Data back-up as well as watch DVD movies?

Also I am considering a new Optical drive for a new computer build-up. Is there such a thing as a HD-DVD burner or do I need to buy Blue-Ray for that?

Lastly how much data can a HD-DVD hold compared to a regular DVD?

Thanks

DVD Burning softwares I have used and would recommend:

CDBurnerXP
ImgBurn
Ashampoo Burning Studio 8 (This is what I use now, and it's excellent.)
I also use ConvertXtoDVD for video conversion and burning.

Storage for normal DVD's afaik are:

- 4.7 GB (single-layer) > These are the ones I use a lot.
- 8.54 GB (dual-layer)

For HD DVD's the storage is:

- 15GB (single layer)
- 30 GB (dual layer)

You can find more info about HD DVD's here.

I use Infrarecorder for burning, and VLC for viewing video. AFAIK HD-DVD is dead, and if you want high capacity optical you need to go with BluRay.

Edit:
I was just looking at VLC's site, and they had a posting that they were dropping the cone icon, and going with a bulldozer for the 1.0 release. I was starting to get pissed, and saw the posting date... :^D

I usualy use this tool, Total Video2Dvd . you can search this from the google.
it is an easy-to-use disc authoring and burning software which includes a powerful video converter engine for DVD that lets you do more with your standard or High-Definition digital media.

Will it convert to iPod format?
I don't have an iPod, but I figured you'd give me one.

Ashampoo Burning Studio 2009

Yeah sounds funny but it works pretty well. I used to use Nero 6.6 in XP but it doesn't work in Vista and I didn't feel like buying a new version. I got Burning Studio 6 Free for a bit but this is an upgrade and isn't quite as limited as v.6 Free was.

Yeah, I read it right now as I went to to their website to check the new VLC 0.9.9 which was released today. Seems they are making this their new logo for VLC version 1.0.0. I seriously have grown so accustomed to the cone red-white icon over the years, but oh well!
