Hi guys, I been searching around but I can't decide which fans to get. I'm ordering an athlon x2 3800+ with dfi nf4 ultra-d mobo, an antec p180 case and a evga 6800 gt with 2x160wd sataII drives. I'm not sure which fan to get for the intake in the p180 case, basically I'm looking for something thats quieter than the fan on the zalman cnps7000, not too quiet as long as it keeps it cool especially the hard drives...btw I do plan on some overclocking in the future

I also need to order a fan for the Scythe SCNJ-1000 Ninja heatsink (this one: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article251-page1.html) I remember reading somewhere that could get a fan better than the fan on the cnps7000 and quieter, just don't know which to get...

Thanks for the help guys, basically my goal is to keep the system as loud as my thermaltake xaser3 with the zalmancnps7000 or quieter with better air cooling if possible

-forgot to mention I'll be getting a Antec SmartPower 2.0 500w I hope this isn't a problem?

youre building almost the same system i have

one more thing.... the 120mm fan on the bottom of the case directed towards the power supply will be enough for the antec smartpower to not even have to turn on it's second fan (very quitet)

Actually would the vantec stealth be any good for the heatsink I think you can adjust the speed, that way I can raise it when I'm playing games during the summer?

2 db difference with the panaflo being at 30 db, trust me, in a p180, you wont hear 30db
BUT the panaflo also puts out 15 more cfm, so much better! panaflo all the way

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Loud loud loud loud loud.

Get Nexus fan, quieter than Panaflo and include an RPM monitoring wire. Get the Ninja, it works perfectly fine in passive mode, and should work very well if a fan is direct mounted to it.

As for the noise level; for hardcore silencers, you'll be able to hear ANY non-undervolted fan in the case. I've undervolted my Nexus fans to 650rpm. My system is passive with the exception of 2 Nexus fans, so except when the Raptor is seeking it is ALMOST inaudible.

SPCR has yet to hear of a system that is completely silent with moving parts.

Anyway, you'll be happier with the Nexus vs. the Panaflo.

Thats what I thought too, until I blew too much $$ on several of their fans and psu. While they are quiet, their specs are so error prone its amazing they get away with it. Trust me, you can do way better with Nexus/Panaflo/Papst/Yate.

Given the crap they pulled in the SPCR forums, almost every single member has sworn to never buy any of their products. Aside from that, they just rebadge fans from Adda anyway and markup the price. Nexus gets their fans from Yate Loon and adds an inline resistor to slow it down a bit to make it quieter. There are several places on the web (tekjems, jab-tech) where you can buy the orange yate loons for 1/2 the price the Nexus, but you'll have to use a fan controller to slow them down to Nexus speeds. Also, reportedly Nexus cherry picks the fans with the least motor noise and the best blade balance to minimize vibration, so it's up to you which route to go. No one knows for sure who makes their 80mm and 92mm though.
