Need some fan reccomendations for XP-90C

I have purchased a spanking new XP-90C still in its box waiting to be used. I was intending to get a panaflo with it, but then recently have read that it wasn't as good as it used to be anymore and there were many other better fans out there. Also, I read that it spins outwards and takes the air from the side (some funnel type from the website).

The thing is, I hope to get a fan that sucks the air very well from the heatsink and blows it out because, I'm using a Antec Sonata II and it has a air duct that comes along with it...

So I'm hoping to get a good reccomendation for a fan which is not too noisy or expensive... I'm not too anal about noise, that goes along with my casing.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

also need some recoomendations. Pardon the off topic but will this fan fit on top of the xp-90

Yes it will, but 12dBA it is not, unless the measurement was taken 15 feet away from the fan.

its has a really good noise/flow ratio.

Yea the ratio is very good if it were true. Try this if your looking for quiet>http://www.jab-tech.com/customer/product.php?productid=2858&cat=80&page=1
If your oc'ing go for the Panaflo>http://www.jab-tech.com/customer/product.php?productid=2608&cat=80&page=1st
and put it on a controller or SpeedFan. You can oc w/ the Nexus just fine....just need good case airflow to compliment it.

i had a silent cat 9 on my xp-90 before i got the L1B. the difference is noticable. dont be fooled by thinking a high output fan is better because in the xp-90's case it isnt. it doesnt need high cfm's to cool good. i have mine running at 65% using speedfan so its spinning at <1500rpm and i idle at 34-36c load 43-44c. i plan on getting a nexus 92mm fan to replace my L1B.

all i know about my silentcat9 is that, i cant hear a single thing from inside my p160, i have a 120mm nexus infront and one in back, and my temps are 29 idle 39 load. thats not even with AS5, its with the thermalright stuff that came with the xp90.

panaflo H1A both in 92mm, 120mm form

delta has one thats 220cfm 60dba. if you dont mind the noise.

So do you mean the L1B is more silent? Don't need a high output fan? That's the first I've heard before... Sorry I'm may be a n00b. So can you reccomend me a good fan that I can use to go along with it? Nexus?

yeah you dont need a high output fan for the xp-90. nexus 92mm 19dba 27cfm fan is more than enough. if you plan to oc then the L1B would do good too. you can always use speedfan to tone down the rpms.

The XP90 copper is an excellent heatsink!!
You would be hard presed to find a different heatsink that was any better!!
When you get into the upper end of heatsinks there is only a few degrees seperating them all!!!

It all boils down to personnal preferences on which fan you use!!

I will tell you that I have just installed the xp120 and installed my old Antec Smart Cool because I have yet to order the 120mm fan that I want!
But do like the Thermaltake 120 Smart case fan becuase it really does move alot of air!!
Seems to me the thermaltake fans are all rated accurately!!

Then again I have heard that the Evercool and several other bransd that do advertise silent use are anything but silent!!

I also found thast using a fan speed controller works wonders to bring down the decible level....

I like my zalman MFC1!!!
But there are also other fan controllers that also do a good job!!

You could also get a Zalman case fan......20db at 1600rpm.....36db at 2800rpm....

Just my 2 cookies worth!!

Arghhh I'm getting more confused... So SilentCat9 or Panaflo? Hm... I'm going to add a poll. HAH!

60dB is wayy to high.. Maybe 30ish is fine. Which 120mm fan can I get the highest cfm for 30ish dB?

You guys reply quick eh..

Oh btw, I'm already OCing... But my temps are kinda hot with stock HSF. Like 52 load and 43 idle. I'm using a Venice 3000+.. Overclocked to about 2.4Ghz already. So I'm just looking to cool down my CPU abit more.

Generally, which are some brands of fans that are good and which are the ones that I should avoid?

Good - Panaflo, Thermaltake
Bad - Evercool

your best bet is to get the panaflo L1B with fan sensor and use speedfan to adjust to your liking.

I bought a slew of ThermalTake Smart-Fan 2's more than a year ago. They DO move a lot of air . . . but the motor whine -- too much at the 4,000-plus-rpm top-end. Yet, you would expect a fan spinning that fast to produce that kind of noise.

I've also tested the ThermalTake 92x25mm "Blue LED" fan. I think it has a sleeve bearing, and I've seen an interesting distribution of noise behaviors in a small sample of them. One had a tolerable but unnecessary motor whine; two others only showed white-noise from air-turbulence at around 3,200 rpm (top-end is 3,600).

The ZALMAN ZM-F2 92mm case fan is very quiet at its top end -- something around 3,000 rpm. It seems to move "enough" air, but Zalman doesn't seem to show CFM specs for any of their fans. Nevertheless, I have two of those in operation, and would order them again.

I've also used Zalman OP-1 (VGA-cooler) Option fans to replace 80mm fans where I wanted something slimmer than 25mm thick. Some people seem to think the OP-1 is noisy, but in a closed case, I can't hear it at its 12V speed of 2,900+ rpm.

The Panaflo 92mm's come highly recommended. I don't have a problem with them, but they've received their share of criticism.

JBDan: So you mean the stats on the SilentCat9 is false?

Like I said, their measurements could have been taked from across the street (not really, but you get my point) and yes, their results could have reported 12dBA. You have to take TT's dBA measurements with a grain of salt. I have used too many of their fans to not know this. I will say silence is relative to the user, as most of us know, so it may be quiet to you. Go visit SPCR.com and have a gander. A lot of useful info if you really dig "true" silent computing.
