Hey everyone.. im not even sure if this is possible, but I figured I could ask here, and someone will know.

I need to recover an address off this dell laptop. When you buy a brand new system, and the first time the system starts up, you register windows. How can I go back and find who windows was registered to? I need the name/addy/phone number etc

can this be done through the registery?

thanks for any help

Try calling MS or DELL?

No one here would have access to their DB's (unless they are employee's, and even then they couldn't really share that info w/ you).

Don't you just enter a name on the computer? Register with microsoft, pft, screw them. They have too much data as is.

i wouldn't give it to you either! Report it to the police station and/or try and look the guy up on the net. Does he have an email account setup on the computer? Maybe he's checking his email from a remote location and you could send him a letter letting him you know you're holding his lappy hostage ;)

Why would I report it to the police station? Its not a stolen laptop or anything like that. It has just been sold a few times, and now im trying to contact the original owner to transfer the ownership.

I have his email, and ive emailed him.. but no response :(

call dell, tell them the story, and they will contact the person for you, atleast thats what they did when my cousin bought a laptop off of ebay.
