Need some chopstick recommendation

Wood - slowly they rot and looks nasty
Disposable - made from bleach wood or something.. pretty bad too
Metal - like but too smooth and food keep slipping
Plastic - similar to wood but breaks after a while also

Any higher quality plastic ones ? probably order from amazon..
 
Not something I use much, but I like wood and bamboo. All natural, and when they get bad I can burn them in the wood stove. Infinitely replaceable resource, and no waste.
 
there used to be a guy on ars that sold machined titanium chopsticks


i think i've got a drawer full of those bamboo chinese takeout chopsticks with engrish instructions

I tried many of the stainless one, it was so hard to pick up stuff I end up using a fork.. hahaha.

I took some of the bamboo ones out, which I used to use a lot.. some of them are black and rotted away.. I would want to use any of those ever again.
 
I prefer metal, Korean style chopsticks. Once you master them, you can achieve a level of precision and control that no fork, spoon, or other eating utensil can match. Plus, they are very easy to clean and will last forever.

except the metal ones have no grip whatsoever, even with the grooves they are a pain. Especially when you get to slippery stuff.
 
What is the point of chop sticks? Why not just use a fork?

If nothing else, it's a valuable skill. You'll never be stuck in the woods with nothing to eat with. A pocket knife and a few minutes will get you something usable so your hands don't get sticky, which is actually worse than plain old dirty.

That said, if I could have only one implement, it would be a teaspoon. I use a teaspoon for most things, especially when it's a packed meal, like lunch or something.

Yeah we got both.. i prefer the Japanese ones for everyday use. My parents prefer the metal ones.
 
i get 10 pairs of wood ones for £1. so .. wood.

fyi, most japanese people don't use "japanese" chopsticks, but chinese style ones.

I can pick up pretty much anything I want. From a single grain of uncooked rice to a slimy strand of noodle.

I ended up buying a pretty high end set from a previous trip to Asia. Handmade from a master who was designated a living cultural asset and straight out of his shop. They look and feel like extremely high quality stuff.

In my experience, wood gives the best grip on the food. Though, as pointed out, it's not the most sanitary or long lasting. Metal are a little less slippery then plastic... very little... Though some of the really well designed ones have a sandpaper~like texture on the tips. If you can find those - they're the keepers. I had a few I bought in Korea when I went to renew my Japanese visa. Long gone now, sadly.

I don't like plastic ones much. Not good, except for playing drinking games with little round peanuts. Which is a necessary skill, along with cutting noodles to length so you don't have to slurp the whole bowl full at one go.

As far as style, I like the longer Chinese ones because I like to grip further from the food than most people seem to.
